My SCA battery charger is very hot to touch and has been on âboostâ level for over 3 hours. I am charging my house battery (which is new by the way). My Campervan has been in the shed for two weeks and to start my 12 V fridge, before I travel tomorrow, I am charging the house battery. I am a solo lady, so please keep any advice in low tech please.

Hi :)
I'm no expert, but I think a little more info would be needed to get good advice from learned members on this forum.
The model of the charger would be handy, and/or what is printed on it ... eg 9999 mA or 99 Amps
The size of the battery ... eg 999 Amp Hours (AH) and the type of battery ... eg AGM (VRLA) or Gel etc
They can get quite hot.
3 hours is not a long time ... depending on size of charger
With that info I would hope someone will come to your rescue very soon :)
Stay safe

What do you mean by "very hot"?
A rough guide is that if you cannot keep the palm of your hand constantly held flat against the case then its temperature is around 60C or higher - which is too hot.
At this stage I suggest you disconnect, and remove power from the charger, for two hours or more and then reconnect and see what happens.

Just two questions. Are you running the fridge at the same time as charging the battery.
Is your fridge a three way unit.

Buy yourself a good quality multi stage charger. Once the battery is charged leave it on float. The battery will last much longer and always be ready to go. My 3 x 120 amph caravan batteries are on float charge 100% of the time when they are not being used and the van is in storage. The batteries were made in 2012 and still hold good charge enough to do anything we need when out in the van. I also have a third aux battery for the tug which we sometimes take if going camping out in the tent. Its also on float charge in the garage when not being used.

My Ctek charger gets quite warm when bulk charging. Just keep an eye on it, and turn it off overnight if not sure

If So turn the fridge OFF until the battery is charged & run the fridge on 240V[ If it has that mode]

If your fridge is a three way one then never run it off your house battery. Only ever run it from your starting battery with the engine running. You will destroy your battery if you run the fridge off the battery when there is no charge.
