Is this the same mob as were putting forward they had a super capacitor battery? Turned out to be lithium titanate cells (LTO) inside the sealed box from the test results. They charged much faster than LFP and LYP cells and last a lot longer. Down side is single cell capacity and price, great for pace makers and bionic devices and maybe even space missions, but way outside the price range for the humble RV. We already have to roll out the defib trolley when we give a quote for a system with LYP cells, can you imagine the reaction if the battery price alone was 10 times higher, without all the aux gear required to keep so many cells all working together or even just to bundle them into a user friendly package.
No one in the RV world has the capability to charge LYP cells at their max capability or even nominal charge rate of 5CA, or 500 amps per 100Ah capacity, nominal rate is 0.5CA or 50 amps per 100Ah capacity. Anyone got a 200 amp charger in their RV to recharge their 400Ah 12v lithium battery?
As far as Graphene matting lithium cells, anything bigger than a hearing aid battery size is still in the planning stage, hasn't even reached the drawing board stage yet so it might be a while till we see them. That is the holly grail for electric vehicles, light weight, incredibly fast charging and discharging capabilities with near zero internal resistance. When they become a reality we will see them first in the Formula E F1 type electric race cars so they can compete one on one with the piston engined units. At about that point the whole car and truck market as we know it will go through the same sort of disruption the horse and buggy age suffered.

I had heard the new batteries will be used by Dyson of the Vacuum cleaner company for his projected Electric car.
Tesla's maximum range is supposedly 600K's and the Dyson 1000k's
If it does work then an electric car will become a mainstream vehicle. If the prices come down.

The original report was from china through Huawei, basically purporting to a Spanish company Graphenona though a subsidery (grabat) together with a chinese company (Chint) in a partnership deal
more reports from EV and more.com and revolution green.

According to my sources at Cambridge Uni there are no imminent battery technologies in the pipeline that will equal petroleums.
Batteries will just be incremental improvements in the foreseeable future...
That's not to say we can't start using electric cars with what we have now though but remember they are powered by coal here.
Britain has said they will try to get to 100% electric fleet by - some BS time quite soon but they will have to
build 20 new Nuclear stations to charge them all.

Maybe where you live some of the electrical energy is coal powered at the moment, but that will change in the very near future across Australia. South Australia where we live has no coal fired power stations at all, it is all renewable with battery back up to smooth out the surges in demand. The system works well, no power load exceeding supply type black -outs during our hot and rather long summer, I doubt any of the other states can claim that sort of achievement .... yet that doesn't make sensational headlines so no one would have heard about it.
So, electric vehicles in SA are not powered by coal, electric vehicles with a clever house solar system are not powered by coal either. You will see this clever technology roll out very quickly over the next few yrs, electric vehicles supplementing the house battery pack and all being powered by solar or other less polluting electricity generation. I believe this will be where the natural gas fuel cell home unit will come into its own.

Just connected in with people who are really well connected into this stuff, uni professors and highly respected electrical engineers who have specialised in the electrical energy storage field. They have their finger on the pulse of just where various technologies have progressed to and what levels are truly obtainable over certain time frames. When someone comes out claiming they have a product way advanced to that predicted technology level it grabs their attention. The first signs are the use of new tech words like graphene matrix and super capacitor and ultra high power density to weigh ratios, they then ask for test data and know what products will create such a graph generated from the test data received. They then know what is really inside the sealed box and if it matches the claims .... it rarely does

Yet to see Peter. With all the wind farms, battery packs and solar thermal in the pipeline down this way I think coal will very soon be a thing of the past as far as power generation goes. No one is building new coal fired power stations, those that are still running are rapidly reaching their use by date and no funds have been set aside to refurbish them to get another 10 yrs out of them. Most have had minimum maintenance and zero upgrades for many yrs because the owners know they are dinosaurs just like the fuel they burn.
Metallurgical will be needed for many yrs to come, but steaming coal, a lost cause. The stuff is so highly subsidised now its actual sale value is negligible, if the subsidies were to stop it wouldn't be even worth digging up. Better to move into the 21st century and leave the rubbish steaming coal in the ground. If they could find a way of tapping the gas without destroying the water table the way fracking does then 4 stage gas peaking plants could act as a stop gap or very large fuel cells if centralised power is really worth the effort. A natural gas fuel cell in the back yard will charge an electric vehicle without ever needing to be connected to the grid and the carbon dioxide released in the process is less than an exercising adults breath over the same period of time.

Jan 9, 2018 - SOUTH Australia has shut off on its reliance on Victoria to keep the lights on and has consistently been exporting power to the east coast, new figures reveal. Data from the national grid operator shows that every week since July 2017, SA has exported more energy than it has brought in from interstate.

Funny how that sort of stuff never makes sensational headlines eh Did anyone see the interview with the Author on the ABC comedy channel last night, can't remember the name of the show but the host does a tonite show style thing with a few laughs added in. A few serious bombshells were dropped during the interview, I don't think the petroleum industry or the coal industry would have a link on their sites to the info that came out, rather damming of those industries and the govts that support them. The figures about jobs in both the construction phase and maintenance field compared to the jobs possibly lost in the coal industry were a real eye opener and show just how one sided the argument to keep coal really is, the numbers just don't stack up in favour of coal.
