We are now stuck for a week so far in Adelaide because we got the dashboard warning Check Engine Transmission. Look in Handbook . Took it to Fiat here and they are so busy at the moment that we cant get the fault looked at until next Wed. The motor home is running well but we dont want to lose our warranty by continuing our planned drive to Darwin, Perth and back to Melbourne. The van is just over two years old and has done 22,000. The warning came on once and disappeared months ago, after a service and the Fiat people told us it was nothing to worry about if it didnt reappear after another outing. 2,000 kms later and it is on the dash again. Comes and goes. Ruining planned holidays and too scary to drive in case computer immobilises us miles away from anywhere...any thoughts?

We have a 2010 Fiat Ducato - Jayco Conquest - we have had warning lights - check engine, etc., sometimes they go out, so we don't get them checked - our regular mechanic has our history on his computer, always checks the codes, and resets - one that kept coming up intermittently was "check engine" - and wouldn't go out. Heading into Port Augusta, so figured to get it checked there. Wrong - we stopped to get a drink, came back, started up - it wouldn't move - no accelerator!
The Isuzu dealer on the highway near the salt lake is the Fiat guy, as well.
Turned out to be, after the starship was put on the back of a truck, and into the PA free camp, to wait for the part to arrive and be installed - was our accelerator cable, which isn't a cable at all -it's a little box thingy.
Emmanual Brothers is the place - why don't you ring them and see if they can fit you in? Not that far away, and they were great with us.

You could try resetting the computer by disconnecting the neg battery lead for a few minutes as it is easy to do and the battery is under the passenger side floor mat

Welcome to the forum, ashwood aussies
When it is all sorted, would you mind letting us all know, what the problem was, and how it was fixed, as it may help others in the future

We are still waiting in Adelaide for the dealer to do another computer check that he will send off to Fiat to see what they advise. Mean while we travelled for a few hundred kilometers and the warning did not come on. We did as suggested ... disconnected the battery. Definitely will let you know. Thanks for the suggestion

Is it ECU issues or other things like overheating ?

My check engine light kept coming on in my Ford Transit every 300 or so K's.. Had the EGR replaced and several other things. Dealers couldn't find the fault so they just did resets. Eventually I went to a dealer in Brisbane. He remapped the computer and since then I have no problems. Wish I had known that in the beginning. Would have saved me a lot of time, money and anxiety.

Hi...happy to report that by disconnecting the battery and then doing about 500kms test drive we had the RV hooked up to the computer this morning to see if the fault was still present. Computer showed no faults.......amazing and so happy we are on our way.
Even though the check transmission warning had been present there definitely were no signs in the performance of the vehicle ever.
I hope this helps others too. When you disconnect from the battery its like re booting a computer......

I carry an OBD11 reader with me. You can plug this into the vehicle, (plug is usually in or alongside the internal fuse box after removing the fuse box cover) and read and cancel codes.
Whilst it does not fix the issue all the time, at least it will give you some idea as to what is wrong, whether you can continue safely to a dealer or serious enough to have to stop where you are .
It is handy so that you can talk to a dealer over the phone and give him some information he can work with to help you.
Cost on ebay for a reasonable one is about $60 so not sheep stations and sjze about that of an ipad.
