Fridge brand & Model number Please
Van brand means very little!!
That will help you getting more relevant advice specific to YOUR fridge

As above, check the resistance of the element. It should be very low - about 1 ohm.

Guy from dometic found a fuse holder inline after the terminal block in the back of the fridge when ours did the same , was so confused as coromal had fitted it with a 15 amp fuse . Then again it was coromal.

Its a Dometic 3 way fridge, that explains it all!
We've had one for the past 6 years, it works occasionally.
We've had it from new & have spent more money getting it repaired numerous times than the price of a new unit.
Not working on 240v, 12v & gas, we've had it all.

Hi,
Our Dometic 2350 fridge has had the spring type attachment that works from the back of the control knob used to change the settings come apart & therefore not function properly. If yours is the same model you just need to slide the fridge forward 20-30cm & remove a cover to see if this mechanism is working properly - ours has malfunctioned at least twice in 6 years.

Many possible reasons
I assume it is one of the automatic source selection Dometic models
[a]It could be the 12V element has burnt out ,but that is not a common problem but easy to check if you know how to safely use a multimeter on the low resistance range
If you do not have &/or know how to use a multimeter it will be a bit difficult to find the problem/s
One handy device to have is a 12V test lamp. , can be a tail light or flasher /turn indicator bulb in a lamp holder with short length of leads .
With that & using the Fridge manual's wiring diagram you can test for 12V power, with all 240V disconnected for safety reasons,
at :
[a] the fridge 12V element ,with connection made to the vehicle & engine running @fast idle test lamp should glow at full brightness.
If it does & Element is not getting hot you have a faulty element
If the lamp does glow, but not @ full brightness, you have a poor connection in the 12V wiring from the vehicle
[c]If the lamp does not glow at all you are not getting a12V supply, that can be for many reasons . & requires further point by point testing with the test lamp
IF you feel confident & wish to proceed with further testing , come back with the fridge MODEL number!!
