I have just had a set of Dunlop Grandtrek AT22`s fitted to my cruiser. They're 285 65R17 116H`s.
I normally pick them of Gumtree or eBay in the West for between $80 - $120. Spare tyre`s never been on the road sales.
Found 4 and fitted them prior to leaving home 13 th Jan 18.
However, at the time the local tyre dealer wanted $405.00 each.
So the reason for the post is:
Todays tyres cost me $289.00 each fitted and balanced. Great price, look like Dunlops, smell like Dunlops, handle like Dunlops and have the same tyre markings.
Have I missed something?,
$116.00 is a huge freight cost per tyre, or have the tyres changed?
Any thoughts and or comments.

The date of manufacture (stamped on tyre) is a possible reason for cheaper than usual - I normally pay around $320 ea for Bridgestones in Sydney (Liverpool Depot). Your Dunlops are a good price -name the dealer and he may get some business.

I bought four of them for my 200 last January and I paid $320 each for them fitted, balanced and a wheel alignment included.
I also got $80 trade in on the old tyres as they still had a bit of tread left on them and could be unsold to someone with a trailer or even a caravan.
Pretty happy with the deal and it was from Beaurepairs.

Brought back memories of when I bought my first 4WD (used import from Japan) in 2001. NZ dealer fitted 4 new tyres (Dunlop Grandrek AT's) where the "D" in the Dunlop name on the sidewalls had been buffed off all 4 tyres. I often wondered why when I noticed that later. Were they seconds? Never had any problem with them. Lasted years and many 10's of 1000 kms before they needed replacing.

I note your comment "Spare tyre's never been on the road". I always had troubles refitting the cover on my spare tyre after checking/increasing the pressure & then I found out why. Somewhere in the car's history, one of the earlier owners had fitted slightly wider tyres AND the spare tyre was ten years old!! The date was on the inside of the tyre so I hadn't spotted it!
As it is recommended not to keep tyres longer than six years, I changed it for the standard 265x70x16 but now I do a 5 tyre rotation to save throwing a perfectly good tyre away. I did note that the tyre had no cracks on it & was told that as I kept a cover on it, that the UV rays could not get into the rubber. So a good 270x70x16 tyre with probably 30,000kms left on it went off to the dump (or was it resold as a second-hand unit?
