Do I fit the water pipe to the inlet of the pump or the outlet of the pump.

See if there is anything here in the technical articles. www.caravancouncil.com.au/
I suggest you fit town supply to outlet side of pump but not knowing what pump you have one can't definitively say ensure there is a no flow/non return valve fitted to prevent town water going back into pump

My advise id DON'T fit mains water. Just fill the tank and use the pump as your need it.
Any leak of the pressure reducing valve (which is absolutely necessary) will put excessive pressure into the HWS and pipes.

Peter

Bowser, how come your motor home does not have a mains water inlet?
You may require a pressure limiting valve . Depending on system fitted . From memory ours is good for 40 Lb . Garden taps are up around 60lb .

Your Rv should be protected from excessive water pressure with a 350kpa pressure limiting valve that you connect your water supply too, after that there should be a non return valve in the system ,hose water only needs to travel in one direction ,the non return valve stops water from being pumped out of the Rv .so Basically waters entering the Rv at a safe pressure, and when the pump is working when your not on town water ,the non return vale stops water from escaping through the hose connection...

Here is an article explaining water systems - Design Your Own RV or Caravan Plumbing System - It starts with simple systems and ends with a full blown caravan/motor home system
