Just curious to know if anyone is using the Foxtel App - Foxtel Now - (was Foxtel Go previously) - instead of taking your IQ box with you. We recognise there will be considerable data usage involved but were planning on a decent GB plan anyway.
We will have a smart TV for internet apps and a VAST system for free to air. If anyone is using the app ( or uses it at home anyway), can you let me know what your data usage is for a typical movie or AFL game please?
Many thanks and happy travelling.

I looked into it a few weeks ago but cost was too much for this old Chief.
I increased my GB's to 110gb and now enjoy Netflix instead at $10 per month. I seem to be able to watch 3x1 hour episodes of an American TV series I am hooked on per day plus still do everything else I need with Data every day and stay within my monthly data. For only $10 per month I get great use out of Netflix.
Much better than the rubbish on free to air.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

We used the Foxtel Now app a few times for AFL games on our recent trip to WA, and found it used about 1gb per hour. At home it depends on the definition, it can also be 1gb per hour but high definition programs can be 3gb per hour. We found it worked really well as long as we had a reasonable internet connection.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. We are thinking about trialling it before we set off. I am not sure I can go 2 years with no AFL or golf coverage!!!

F2, can you change over your NBN Foxtel cable system to a Fox Sat Dish system as a friend did, may not be quick change over though with some negotiation.

The problem is we will have no 'home' for a Foxtel connection so we will not have a box to take with us. We thought it might be worth trying the app as an alternative but wanted to obtain feedback from others about their experiences before we commit.
Cheers

The Fox Sat box is similar to the Vast Sat Box, just change the cable over from one to the other.

For AFL check out the Telstra steaming options. Fairly sure they don't count towards your data allowance. Not sure about golf, it's probably covered in Kayo. Telstra subscribers get a short term deal on Kayo.
I don't watch either sport so happy with a service that allows downloads, unlike Foxtel Now.
Foxtel Now has changed subscription fees in the last year. It has jumped to $25 per month plus $10-15 for extra packages. While cheaper than a Foxtel STU, it's substantially dearer than it's competition.

Hi Flags2, sorry I can not help with your question, as we have never had Foxtel
Thanks to dabbler above for mentioning, AFL Telstra streaming options, I shall pass this onto the boss, as she likes to watch the footy

Hi Flags2,
Foxtel Go is a free app that comes with your Foxtel Home subscription for your device, you have to watch it on the phone/ipad as anything plugged to a TV comes up as Foxtel cannot be recorded.
Foxtel Now is a separate service that you pay for as Dabbler says, that can be mirrored or plugged into a TV as you are paying for a mobile service, data applies.
AFL Live is a Telstra service and data free for their customers, try to get it onto a bigger screen if possible.
Cheers Bob

We are starting our big lap next week and will be watching FOXTELL GO, netflix and iview when we have coverage. We have a total of 60gb to use each month, should be enough
Foxtell go is a different product to Foxtell now.

Take care out there.

I use Foxtel Now mainly to watch the Formula One races and usage is generally around 3GB per hour if I'm in a good phone reception area. Sometimes the definition will fade if the signal quality degrades and some buffering occurs, not sure what effect that has on data usage. One good thing about Foxtel Now is that you can suspend your account if you're not going to use it for a while, like I did at the end of last year's F1 season, and reactivated it when this year's season started.
