Hi, have been given differing opinions.
I wish to drive from Derby to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek, then through to Fitzroy Crossing.
Leaving 26 July 2019
Driving Nissan Patrol towing 19ft high clearance but not off-road caravan.
Would appreciate all advice.

Take it slowly and you be alright. Big emphasis on slowly.

Haven't done it for a couple of years - but then it was low tyre pressure on van and tug and as cjt55 said slow all the way - you will shake out any gremlins in your combination for sure - travelling companion ruined two tyres on his jeep.

We did the entire Gibb River Road in June 2017 (from south to north). At that time access to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek was washed out so we had to bypass that. Before heading off on the GRR we stayed 3 nights at the Kimberley Entrance CP in Derby - several people had left their caravans there for a small fee and were doing either the whole of the GRR or overnight trips just to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek. That would be an option worth considering as we saw at least 3 broken down caravans including a couple on the backs of trucks.

July 2019 Gibb river road from Derby is part tar approx. 70k, gravel is not good but can be done at reduced speed, however 5 km for gorge turn off road is dangerous, large bull dust holes marked with witches hats. Gorge road is much better except for inconsiderate people driving very fast towing so called off road rigs (100km +) showering you with rocks. Watch out for road trains (fuel tankers) as well. Having said that, the gorge is amazing with lots of crocks, Tunnel Creek is good as well except the roof has collapsed at the entrance making for a very difficult entry/exit and if the tour buses turn up with 30+ passengers each it will be a long day.

We did GRR last year, speeding drivers is the biggest issue thinking it is a race track.
We had 3 race past us while replacing a wheel showering us with rocks. 1 slowed & stopped & asked if we were ok.
At the western end some idiot screaming along with caravan hogging the narrow bitumen.
Also didn't see too many inflating or deflating tyres. They probably don't own a compressor!
Cheers, Kay
