I am in the process of trying to find the best device- other than a mobile phone to access the internet whilst on the road.
Would appreciate any comment on the Night Hawk Mk2 router, also the best aerial setup suitable for full metal Motorhome.

I have had the Mk1 for two years now and it is really great. I don't use any aerial and (touch wood) have had no issues.
I was told not to leave it plugged in to 240 volts after it is charged to capacity as it can cause the battery to swell. The only minor issue I had was when it would not charge and this was resolved by sliding the back off, taking the battery out and then putting it back in again. Voila, away it went again.

You can buy a cable now that fits the Nighthawk from Bangood, they are a brand called Baseus, they have a gizmo in the cable which switches it off when it has reached full charge, have one and they seem to work well, about $8-00 from memory.hey are available in other configurations for other applications too.

Nighthawk has been faultless for us, so good that we have ditched the NBN at home
We don't use an external aerial
In regard to the battery issue we run ours with the battery removed, powered via Aukey USB 3 via either 230v or 12v. Apparently the supplied USB power pack is inadequate to use without the battery

I'm with Optus Mobile Broadband with their modem so can't comment on the Nighthawk but this is the external antenna I use in my motorhome. It sits on the rear window. It's omni directional, it was given to me so it has no markings
We used one that came with our original Telstra Dongle and it works great but over time we have found that the dongle by itself works just fine in most areas.
In actual fact this topic prompted me to get the unit out, blow the dust off it and hook it up again and while it provides all the connections for an extra aerial in our situation we do not need to use it.
Get the approved aerial and it will improve reception in lesser signal areas.
Imo it is a great piece of gear and it doesnt matter wether you have IOS or Android it works the same so do not believe hat you need an Apple product to achieve improved reception

No aerial. I always pull out the cable when it's full charged. About 48 hours between charges.

We used to use a Nighthawk on a Telstra plan, but that was when Telstra allowed shared data between all devices, (two mobiles and the Nighthawk.) Telstra's latest plans don't allow sharing and limit the Nighthawk to just 10 gig per month. Not enough to justify keeping it active just for when we're away. We'll just hotspot from a mobile which can have much more data.

We gave up on Night Hawk. Unless there is a reasonable signal from a tower it is no better than a blue tick phone.
Useless between Tennant Creek and Woomera. Even the expensive signal boosters that cost $1200 have to have at least a week signal. Previous post on this forum said useless as the night hawk north of Woomera.
