Unfortuneately our failed 50 amp charger has also completed the demise of our house batteries.
The Projecta charger is also dead so need to replace.
Q. With 3x 105 ah batteries do I need 50 amp charger or will lower amp do.
Problem is can't get anything in Mt Isa so online only.
Had to pay for batteries and now wait up to 2 weeks for them the arrive in Isa.

I presume the question refers to 240V chargers?
If you buy a decent quality 3 stage charger, it could be as big as you can afford.
Just like a 120A alternator charging a crank battery, the batteries will control the charge acceptance rate.
Cheers,
Peter

Yup, 240 volt. Looking at Victron 30amp, Ctek or similar.
We've had problems with the Projecta and it's heat sensing since new so I don't really want another one.

I am considering getting an 18-20V 30 to 50
Amp transformer and wiring through the solar regulator .

Same here, but a slightly different setup feeding a DC-DC 12v to 24v charger into the MPPT controller. Still thinking about it.

Yes more heavy duty. I THINK
the chargers on the market are not full
time or the constant A.H they SAY will not
support Duty cycle !

Have mounted my little Victron 10amp charger off the wall so it gets a bit more air cooling.
This is the third transformer in the back of a kitchen cupboard which is stuffed full. I've probably gone a whisker overboard with heat sinks & a Noctua 40mm fan, but it hasn't failed!
I just need to know if I need a 50 amp charger or will lower capacity do the job.
I am looking at Victron 30amp, will this be sufficient?
Simple answers for my foggy brain cells please.

I use my 10amp Victron to top up the car battery 85Ah & old car battery 80Ah used for testing things & the 4 x 26Ah gel batteries which I have use occasionally to test my solar setup & 3 ARB compressors (about 80amp draw).
When charging I have noticed that the 10amp charger doesn't run that long at full output, maybe an hour, then starts reducing amps.
It would be nice to have a 50amp charger for 300+Ah, but you probably won't gain much more over a 30 amp charger.
Don't forget that you are mostly charging from a partial discharge so at the end of the day the 30amp charger probably will only take a fairly small percentage longer.
Let's say the first hour the batteries could take more current. That's only an extra 20amps over the 3 batteries. So 6 to 7 amps per battery. The 50amp charger will soon get down to 30amp output.
So with a 30amp charger it will take about 24mintes longer to charge the batteries.
Is saving 24 minutes worth about $750 over $275. Probably not!

Sydney, if you are referring to me.
Another thought on the 50amp charger. It could easily be that the batteries fairly soon won't take the full 50amp, so the 24 minutes probably will be closer to 15 minutes.

There is a handy shop, Allied Industrial Technologies, 26 Barkly HWY, Mt Isa. We got some O rings there. There maybe other useful items there.

When you setup the Bluetooth app the default password is either 4 or 6 zeros, it's not clear in the instructions, it's not the serial number. Remember to turn BT on & the charger on when setting up & you most likely need to download the latest software for the charger. Once it's all installed it works well, just not quite the smoothest process to get it installed!

Looks like the turn off was left just past the bridge. We missed that turn off, and had no mob or internet. Sorry but we have to keep going, just leaving Barkly Homestead today. I used to use Projecta chargers in the service garage I worked in, I never put more than 25 amps into the batteries to charge them. Gentle charge over 24 hours. Ian
