I've had a catch can on D-Maxine since she was new. I noticed the can dip stick was getting to about half so got out the old syringe and tube to empty. So result was 160ml of oil for last 40,000kms.
Anyone else measure their catch?

The last catch I measured Mate was Flathead and all were of legal size.
Ooops, sorry mate, just re-read your question and it wasn't a catch of fish you were asking about.

Mine drains back through dip stick . Ive lifted or raised the breather off rocker cover so oil doesnt pass through so easy . An extra 30mm makes a heap on difference. More ways than one !!

Stretch I drained mine for the first time last week after 5000 ks and got 70ml. So at that rate I should get about 500ml after 40000k.
Same car.

Wildly varying reports from Landcruiser Forum as well to me, so Dillberry seems a bit high and Stretch is low. "A low Stretch"

Hey Doug, flathead good, not to oily!
Aus-kiwi when l took d-maxine in for the first service it had the catch can on. They mentioned modification evils! I had thought about running a drain to sump but decided maybe later.
The Travelling Dillberries and Craig 1, l thought it was a bit low but as my vehicle is wildly over serviced l wondered if that has an influence. Oils are never older than 3-5000kms due to low milage and keeping service schedules. Suppose catch cans are not all created equal either.
Stretch.

My catch can has the drain attached to the chassis rail. Oil change every 5000km and drain it at the same time. Patrol GU, 6.5liter.

Stretch I believe that catch can performance varies with make.
Mine is a Western Pro Vent with drain valve and hose. Installed myself. My services are at 10,000km.

The Travelling Dillberries, l followed some of the guys on Isuzu forum at the time and they were all putting on the HPD units. They have stainless mesh filter but it's prob not as fine as your setup. So far though the throttle body is still very clean and the cans out hose looks dry inside.

G'day STRETCH,
I fitted one of those $400 Provent German units - it's caught approx 180mL of oil (just a gestimate where the oil is in the detergent bottle) in about 16,000kms.
I was torn between the Aussie made HPD & the German one - the internet trial swayed me. And Western Filters in Sydney had it going at a good price (bought a spare filter too - cheaper). I put it on at 14,500kms after lots of procrastination.
Anything is better than nothing with these high tech engines!
I wondered about falling foul of the dealer (they actually recommended it) when I went for the last service - only comment was "Get the bloke who installed your catch can to tighten up one hose as there's a minor leak." Yes, I did!

Have seen some CC's mounted in convenient places, as long as they are checked/filter changed on a regular basis. Because my understanding is that some CC's have a pressure valve on the top, that releases pressure if the CC is full of oil or the Filter is blocked. In this instances oil/vapor comes out of the top of the CC flows down the sides and falls on.??...... exhaust pipe below.

Is that a GM 6.5 in Patrol ? One thing cans prevent is run away engine !! Some charge big money to have them fitted . Why they have become controversial!!

Optimiser 6.5 turbo Chev diesel, done by Brunswick. Some say boat anchor, I say steady and reliable.
The test that swayed me was the one done by Curtin University & is featured in Unsealed4x4.com.au . Prior to buying my last Patrol that already had a very basic one fitted, I hadn't heard of them. Friends who had a Pajero paid up a significant amount of money when their inlet manifold, etc gummed up - that wasn't my idea of pleasure!
