We are thinking of pulling our 3.2 tonne van with our Landcruiser 200 up this road in mid June 2021. I understand there are some very steep sections and tight bends.
Is it relatively safe and is there much traffic?
Are there 'pull overs' to let following traffic pass?
Is there any specific issues or risks?
Thanks in advance.

Been up and down that raange with the Nissan without problems.
There is heavy transport movement to be aware of, they have call points going up and down the range.
Take your time enjoy the scenery and keep to the left.

In season there is a lot of cane hauling semi-trailers up and down that road. I'm not sure of the traffic after or before cane harvesting. It is two-lane bitumen all the way. The gradient is not particularly steep, it will be the bends and curves that limit your speed and probably drop you back an extra gear. It is a long climb si I generally pull the auto selector back for a lower gear and let the motor spin at over 2500 RPM. That way there is less slip in the torque converter and your gearbox temperature will not rise as much.
Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for all your thoughts, the specifics on how to allow the diesel and the torque converter 'to have it head'. Thanks Keith
