Hi all has anyone experienced a flat spot when pressing acceleration pedal on a 2018 ranger ? happened to me a few times .. go to overtake and nothing happens !!! before backing off then seems to pick up again ... usually when driving slowly in a town etc or stuck behind a very slow vehicle ...
Will be taking it to dealer ..

Sounds like it needs a service in fuel system . Filters etc ... dealer or even better ? A good diesel mechanic . Finding a good one is the problem !! I dont have too much trust in franchise mechanics . They can have issues with EGR mixing with oil in inlet like modern diesels have ! Due to EPA requirements .

I have never had a problem regarding this but a few friends and relo's have installed an I Drive which attaches to the back of the accelerator. Reduces any lag and has instant response.
Doesn't affect fuel, gearbox or anything else but they swear by it. I will have one shortly, 5 mins to fit.

Quite a lot ov vehicles have a flat spot off idle, the new Pajero is the same. I first came across this with a Subaru Forester. It's usually evident with automatic transmissions.

A little to do with DBW ( drive by wire ) and turbo engines . First the ecu checks / asks if throttle is opening ? Through another wire so its fail safe . Then it revs . Remember some cars taking off on their own ? This is to prevent run away !

My Pajero had a slight lag. Had the ecu remapped and lag gone and feels like a new car just with more torque and power.

A relative had the same issue with a Territory. A lengthy period of too-ing and fro-ing with dealers saw him no closer to a solution. He finally lost patience and went to a local-ish diesel mechanic who plugged it in, cleared all of it's learnt stuff and took it for a drive while recording everything that it did. The upshot was new airflow and manifold pressure sensors and problem solved.
It may be worth looking at the various engine sensors ?

If running MAF ? Inlet air meter. If hot wire type ? Spray with MAF cleaner with key OFF . Dont touch!

I had this problem but worse as when I decelerated it wouldn't kick back or go up in the rev's even with my foot flat to the floor.
INFO
Been driving for 3 hours at 95 to 100kms with 3 tonne van on in 42 to 44 degrees in the north west.
Cam over rise and had a vehicle doing 80kms and hour, We slowed and when we had a good long clear run I went to over take and NOTHING.
We stayed behind them for a few minutes when I selected sports mode etc to check what I could do and then got an opportunity to over take again and did so using sport select a gear mode.
We slowly passed and got back up to 90 to 95 kms and cruised into the next ruck stop 30 minutes later.
We fuelled up and stopped for a brew and when we pulled out 30 minutes later the vehicle was fine and was for the next 1500kms.
On investigation I discovered on a Ford forum that the transition and fluid gets too hot and this sends an electronic signal to the engine computer to save any damage by reducing any over reving.
I spoke with Ford and they advise its a semi limp mode to save damaging anything.
They suggested a larger cooling core on the transition if we are going to the hot areas regularly and it wouldn't be an issue.
Have spoken to a few happy travellers about this and they some have had similar issues and only one gone to the larger cooler and he hasn't had any issues.

Fitted the I Drive last Friday, what a difference. Went down the expressway from Newcastle to Doonside, 7.9 to 8 ltrs per 100ks, would have gone lower, didn't think fuel use would be affected but quite pleased.
The response from the excellerator was surprising, like a V8. Can't wait to try with the van on.

Fitting an idrive will not improve fuel economy. In fact it may worsen fuel economy depending on hard you want to push the pedal down. All the idrive does is essentially remove the slack or spongey feeling of the accelerator.

It magically makes your right foot heavier ....... or lighter if you adjust it that way.

I beg to differ, travelled that route many times and usually average 8.5 to 9 ltr per 100ks.Something surely happened or I just imagined it.
Definitely lighter on the throttle.

It has nothing to do with engine management. All it does is change the sensitivity of your throttle. You can make it more or less sensitive. If it feels like a V8 then it is just opening the throttle as if you had stamped your foot on it. Hard to see how this would help fuel economy.

No, just testing it to see response. Lighter foot, less fuel!!
