Just put a new one in, solid mass kit. Rattles in Bell housing on idle. OK when depressed or low revs.. Noisy only
on idle. Any ideas. Was OK b/4 .just slipping.

Was it a dual mass to start with. I believe that is one of the problems with changing to a solid mass from a dual mass is noise and vibration at Idle.

It is actually the gearbox rattling, if you can get the engine idle speed reset up 50 to 100 revs, the noise probably will go or be reduced. Thicker grade of gearbox oil would also help, but gearchanges when cold would be stiffer mainly 1st to 2nd gears.

Was there a >spring < on clutch fork ? Duel mass is more to do with flywheel . Its like another harmonic balancer . Seems theres a little too much free play on throw out bearing ? Did you check or replace the spigot bearing in crank ?

It was a full replace from the standard duel mass.all bits were new. It's working OK, but noisy at idle.. There was a mention re increasing the idle a bit to help. Not sure how.

Done some research when I had to change the flywheel on the Landy ( 5 cylinder diesel) a couple of years ago. I found a lot of posts with people complaining about noise and vibration at Idle after changing from dual to solid Mass, some even going as far as cutting there losses and having it changed back to a dual mass Flywheel. I ended up biting the bullet and forking out for a new Dual mass and not taking a chance on it.

Its the cost why people go back to solid flywheel . A new clutch with latter flywheel . Needs the whole assembly replaced . Lets face it what they are talking about is shock loading when trans fails !! That is when clutch is dumped at high rpm ! That is NOT normal driving !! However you cant have enough harmonic balance in any engine !! Franchise charge stupendous amounts to replace clutch !! That is why they have alternative!! A well balanced solid flywheel assembly still works !! Having said that I would try to keep the original ! Its another part that needs servicing however !! This was not too much an issue on older models !!
