What is a safe level of EGT temps for a FD33T or ED33T? Getting ready to install egt sensor and gauge to fine tune engine.

Ball park figure is what the engine manufacturer recommended . Other wise dont exceed 600 degrees

Depends entirely on where the sensor is located.

Should be on engine side of turbine manifold . But on dump pipe gives some idea .

I will probably install directly after turbo on dump pipe. I wouldn't want to drill into anything before the turbo without fully removing as any metal bits could end up in turbo.

Turbine is pretty durable in that department. A magnet helps clean ! Plus some grease on drill ? Hold a vacuum to suck any breakaway pieces .

I have an EGT meter fitted in the Landy ( pre-turbo) and have been advised to limit temperature to 600 C - 650 C in short bursts, as aluminum starts to melt at approximately 650 C.
On long hills you may find it is necessary to go to a lower gear even though you are still pulling and holding speed . In order to keep your EGT below this temperature.

Practical and quick from the voice of "Experience " - great stuff. I know your technique does work and without a problem.
Inexperienced Pedantics would throw their arms in the air saying that your actions will bring on the "end of the world......" without ever doing it or seeing it done.

Or perhaps leave the engine idling ??? Maybe that'd blow the bits out of the hole ? Just a random thought that's possibly not worth a cracker.

I do like that idea Auskiwi.
I think I will do it that way. Just drill slow.
Cheers,
Peter
