I replaced one on our Jayco Sterling. (The locking bar broke in half, released the top cover that blew into oblivion. Wonder if that has happened to anyone else?)
Anyway, I am not sure whether only the top can be replaced separately but I bought a complete new hatch assembly. They seem to be standard, just make sure that you measure the hole and particularly the roof thickness to match the one bought.
Cannot remember who I bought it from - apart from being in Sydney - nor the cost But the price and doing it myself was less than the insurance excess.
(To get home I dropped into a town Bunnings and bought a sheet of core board, cut a square to size and used my cordless drill to screw it in place. Although not rain proof it was wind proof. Why core board? Because it was able to be cut with a knife, not having a wood saw for plywood.)

Edit: Changed water proof to rain proof.

Google Heki Hatch. I believe that is what you have.
Be prepared as they are quite expensive, as are individual parts. You are probable looking around $700 depending on model. Many van parts and accessories shops sell them.

My replacement hatch was nowhere $700, although I seem to recall it was around $200.
But check out the Caravans Plus Queanbeyan web site. They have various types and sizes of hatches ranging from less than $200 to nearly $900!
Pick one to fit into your roof hole - remembering the roof thickness - and good price even if it is not exactly like the broken one.

Roger,
As others point out, other hatches are available from lower prices, and you may get a correct fit.
I have just put the one I think you have on here.
Good luck with your search.

Roger, when you say vintage van, how old is it? If you had given the make and model of the van we may have been able to supply the hatch. If the van is truly a vintage van then that hatch is not original.
Have a look through this page. You may be able to source a hatch that will fit the hole. The size of the hatch is expressed in the size of the hole it fits intl.

Hi Roger,
Going through my records I found the details of the hatch I bought. It was a Dometic Mini Heki Plus 40 x 40cm square - 43 to 60mm thick roof. Bought on eBay from seller 'sscampervans' the cost on their listing is now $299.95 plus shipping. Note that there is another model for a different thickness roof.
The one I bought has a retractable shade on one end and a retractable insect screen on the other. The same hatch on the caravansplus page provided by PeterD may or may not have the screens. Give them a email to enquire - they are a very good company to deal with and will answer your query.
Both my old and new hatches had/has the bow shaped bar as per your photo - it had broken in half so wouldn't lock over the 'bump.'
Hope this helps.

Yes, that is the screen set that came with my hatch. Thank you for showing it. Now the OP Roger will know what to look for.
While I am not familiar with Jayco's Heritage I feel that their hatches would mostly be standard.

Thanks to everyone who replied - really useful information! I think I will measure the dims in 3D and get a replacement unit, not necessarily the same make. Roger
