Mazda BT50 Squealing brakes. Anyone else have that ? usually worst when brakes are cold. Embarrassing.
Squealing from inside the engine compartment when engine turned off, the computer ? is that normal?

Mechanic mate, that would be you best bet.

Brake pads need to be warmed up to work properly and depending on composition of brake pad, some squeal when cold. Can't help with noise under bonnet.

i had a noise from under bonnet after shutting down turn out to be the CRD fuel pressure equalizing

You could try finding a quiet stretch of road and do a few successive fairly hard stops from 80kmph

Yes could be that the brake pads are glazed over. If the pads are genuine you could try fitting accessory pads.

I think the same with my Ranger, weird noise.

Yes that's what I think, I know dust in the drums makes the brakes squeal, but this is all bitumen traveling, been through a couple of services so nothing picked up. I thought too it must be the compound, and yes after an hours driving the noise stops. Its a bit embarrassing all the same. Thought it could be a film of surface rust on the disc's also.

I heard a small Isuzu truck doing the same. So its the "the CRD fuel pressure equalizing", nothing to be concerned about. But how come all the Rangers and BT50's aren't doing it.

Yes, I am light footed on the brakes, maybe they need a bit of work. Not possible to do hard braking with the other GPS in the passengers seat.

Hello Ian,
Not sure I understand what you are saying, "Squealing from inside the engine compartment when engine turned off," .
So the car is not moving when this squealing occurs, is that what you are saying...?
If the squealing only occurs at shutdown with the car and engine stopped, then the cause is possibly a pressure equalisation of some type
A bit more information to help diagnose potential causes would help.
Regards,
Bob,

Could be stones lodged between calipers , rotors ? Assuming theres still enough lining on brake pads ? Could be squeezing serpentine belt ? A tensioner pulley etc ? Taking off belt is one way of testing for 20 second test . Can be a lot of things

Several dry days and the brakes have been good.
The noise in the motor compartment happens when I turn off the motor, goes for a minute or two. It was suggested that it was fuel pressure equalizing. However when I next stop the vehicle, I will open the bonnet and try to pin point where its coming from.

Hello Ian,
I think you will find that it is the residual fuel pressure bleeding off from the fuel rail and high pressure pump. However this should be just audible, not so loud as to be embarrassing when in public, so this bears investigation at a dealer.
Is your car still under warranty, if not how many Klm's have you travelled, if a reasonable distance and the car is less than 5 years old, try for a statutory warranty repair.
Hope this helps,
Bob

When you do get around to replacing pads, get Ceramics, they don't leave that tell dust on them that the cheap pads leave, they last longer, and they never squeal. I even have them on my bicycle. They are about $50 dearer for the whole 4 wheels together.

When moving ! Can also be the backing plate against callipers squeaking ? When braking . Under bonnet could be a 1000 things . Inlet pipes under pressure/ boost etc . Turbo hitting housing ? Which means your turbo is cactus ! Check shaft play ?

This I tend to dispute, ceramic brakes are designed to work most efficiently when hot (glowing red hot). Soft pads make dust because they are working, have a look at the front wheels of the high performance Mercs, BMWs.

On all my previous 4wd's I have never had a squeaking noise, by running ceramics for over 10 years. Just never happened. Same with the bike, and bikes are renowned for squeaking brakes.

Its often the back plate on pads moving ever so slightly against pistons ! Some have a stainless plate between . Often a little graphite back of pad . Fixed . If new pads have recently been fitted I hope proper bedding in was done !! Usually two or three hard applications to set the resin . If not it melts onto rotors .,

Original pads, maybe new pads next service. Yesterday they squealed, day before they didn't. The squealing in the engine compartment seems to be coming from the brake master cylinder assembly.

Is it not a case that something is going to wear. Do you want it to be the pads or the disk?

Pads are cheaper and easier to replace than disks. There is a reason for this.
