Hi everyone pleased to be part of the forum. I have just bought my first caravan and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the small electric item that is between the Anderson plug on the car and the battery in the van.

It looks like a diode. I can't see the part markings, though.

Possibly a voltage regulator mounted on a massive heat sink.

Probably a dual schottky diode.

It is not a regulator (it only had two wires connecting it.) It is a diode. They are often used in the charging line for charging the house battery from the tugs alternator. It is there to prevent the house battery feeding back to the tug and the tug discharging the house battery. If there is a common cable feeding both the absorption fridge and the battery, it is included to prevent the fridge from discharging the house battery.

It will probably be a Shottkey Diode, I use them on a heat sink just like in the picture. Look closely there is 3 wires as they are a double diode in one package.
