It's a major inland route. It was two lane bitumen when I last travelled it. Consult Live Traffic NSW to see if there are any hiccoughs along it.

Golden Hgw is our preferred route there are some minor road works in a couple of spots. We do Sydney Dubbo via Branxton/Walkworth very regularly as we have Family/Grandkids in Dubbo. Hay to Dubbo last December again some minor road repairs but no holdups.

Hi Possum, Thinking of going north that way as I have friends in Branxton and wanted to visit. Do a lot of trucks travel that way (like the Newell)? Is it very twisty and turny?

msg, I assume you are coming from the west. There are very few trucks until you get past Cassilis (unless you are travelling in the wheat harvest period.) From there you get a few associated with the mining and local agriculture. As far as hills go, I would call it more undulating. There is some high country near Cassilis that will knock you back a few gears and a couple of good pinches east of Denman. Most of the bends would be your corners when travelling through villages. The very bad intersection with the New England Hwy is no longer there, it is now a grade separated intersection.

Golden is an easy drive, no twists and turns to speak of it crossed the Great Dividing Range at its lowest point.
Branxton Showground is a FreeCamp for self contained vehicles, clean toilets, Dump Point, but no showers. Great fish N chips at Branxton Chippery (note very large servings), Chinese restaurant, Great Bakery (Child Bride reckons great Coffee), a couple of Op-Shops and great meals at Pub.
Very few B Double trucks, a few dump trucks like any road.
