Travelling alone

My wife and I are getting ready start out travelling this great country at the end of next year. Still quite a lot to get ready but one issue that has come into our thinking is the saftey issues of travelling alone. While it would be better to travel with others the thought of stopping somewhere alone is a little on the scarry side. We would appreciate any thoughts on this matter. I guess we won't be the only one's who have had to look at this.  Thanks Brian and Cherylweirdface

Hi Brian and Cheryl.
We have meen travelling alone for 8-9 months per year for the last 3 years and for holidays in the bush for 40+ years before that. We generally 'free camp', or use National Parks, we rarely use caravan parks.

In that time we have NEVER had a problem of any sort.

True, occasionally someone goes crazy, and it always hits the headlines when it happens, but I suspect that there are more murders in shopping centres than in the bush.

Don't worry, it will spoil the experiences of the bush, and it will never happen.

Hi Brian & Cheryl

I'm a single mature female and I'll be heading off in the new year by myself. I'll be doing a lot of free camping as finances wont permit staying in caravan parks every night but i wouldn't anyway as i like the idea of national park and bush camping. From all the magazines i've read and people i've talk to, I'm not in the least worried about it. There will be lots of Grey Nomads on the road and from the sounds of things they all look out for each other. I think it will be just like if you were at home. I'll be careful but the fact that i'm alone is not going to stop me from living my dream. I can hardly wait. See you on the road.
