We ourselves had an older Chescold 3-way fridge a couple of years ago and that didn't have any major rust issues.  We travelled with a couple for awhile though, that had a 12v Waeco but they also had a protective, insulated cover for it.  Perhaps that would help?

Hi we travelled Australia with an Evacool fridge/freezer as a supliment to our small fridge worked well in tropics, only problem we had was the lead which was replaced in darwin, no problems with corosion with it either as it was fibreglass casing....Max and Carol Dun'N'Dusted
