We have just purchased our 'next home' which is a caravan. We are still preparing to set off on the next stage and adventure in our lives which will be travelling and seeing as much of Aussie as we can. As we are in the process of selling our house I have started to look at who do we insure the caravan with. Can I get some feedback on who has found which insurance company good to deal with. Ours is a 2nd hand caravan but it will be our home so we need to make sure it is properly insured.
Hello Kath...seems most companies will cover your van, but another policy is usually required for contents and other specified items. My wife works in finance & insurance and has seen such items cross her desk.
You'll find CIL extremely good. I have owned a van for 18 months and needed to make a claim fairly early on in the ownership of the van. I found them excellent to deal with and paid up promptly after carrying out reasonable checks regarding the claim. CIL has a very good name and I would be surprised if you found any company better for van insurance.
PS I have no association with CIL and neither has any of my family.
I agree with the previous comment regarding CIL Insurance. I have been with them for the past 2 years and also I retired as a General Manager of a insurance company (not CIL) and I found they understand Caravans better than anyone else. They specialise in Caravans like Club Marine do with the boating industry. I will give you an example of their understanding - I have a flat screen TV fitted in the van, and they automatically cover the TV where 3 other companies wanted to charge extra for the TV. They also give you limited contents cover with your van. You can't go past them for their understanding and their premiums were competitive. I compared them with 4 other companies.
Thank you both for your advise. We called into a caravan yard in Maddington today as we were up that way and they had CIL advertised so I got some details and was pleasantly surprised. I had originally asked about caravan cover with another insurance company which we have our house and contents with and was told we would have to take our caravan into a caravan yard in Bunbury to be valued!!! I asked if that was the case with CIL and he looked very surprised and said no. Thank you both for your advise which we will probably go with after talking to their agent. We are selling up and taking off in our 'new home' as soon as we can so are preparing ourselves and our caravan for much travelling in, we hope, the very near future.
