BUY or RENT (from abroad)

Hi there,
We live in Ireland and plan to tour all of Australia during 2009.    Do you think it would be better to hire or buy a small motorhome?   I suppose the trip would take several months..  We would like something well equiped (from the safety point of view)   Your comments and help would be greatly appreciated.

Difficult question.
Rent is expensive, known cost, low risk. Get what you pay for.

Purchase may be a lot cheaper if you buy well & sell well, but doing that can take some time. Is that what you want to spend some of your holiday doing?

Depends on your budget and how long you are here. Lots of backpackers buy a bomb for a few months and have a great time. There are spots in some cities where backpackers (and others) trade vehicles.

Cheers,
Peter.

Thanks. i think I'll have o locate one of those trading areas...though I'm not sure about the law regarding an outsider buying and insuring a car.

Lots of them seem to do it, so it can't be too difficult.
Certainly no legal issue.

Cheers,
Peter.

Hi,

We recently purchased a motorhome, although not from Glenn,  and during our enquiries we came across a contact who specialises in this area.  Finding the right van and selling to overseas visitors and then knowing their end of holiday dates, finding a buyer for them.  He had some very nice vans, replied promptly and clear info. regarding availability, interiors and vans past journeys.  You might like to contact him.  Glenn Kesbah - glennal@optusnet.com.au
