Due to my undexpected retrenchment - which has turned out to be a blessing in disguise - we are planning to leave Melbourne as soon as November. We realise that the Nov/Dec holiday period can be a nightmare and as we are very new to vanning, would really like some advice as where to go at this time of the year. I would think that the sooner we can leave in November (daughter #1 getting married on 2nd), the better. We have no time limit - yippeeee!

Hi, It really depends on where you plan to go, anywhere on the East Coast will be bedlem. Perhaps do some short trips first and plan a bigger one when everyone is back at work and the weather is starting to turn nasty in Melbourne. We are form Melbourne and are leaving next sunday 15th. for 18 weeks away, I sooo hate retirement!!!! Good luck with your travels
If you don't have a time limit, you might consider heading west. The Eyre Peninsula is a great place to visit - the east side of it is sheltered but still has a lovely coastline and beautiful beaches while the west side is generally a bit more wild and windy - but the spectacular scenery and an interesting colony of sea lions makes up for that. I'm not too sure how crowded it gets there during school holidays, but there a quite a few national parks to choose from as well as lots of caravan parks in various towns.
Tasmainia would be nice to visit that time of year and Tassie is rarely crowded...Stay out of the centre in Summer though just too hot. But areas through Gippsland and along the "southern edge" of the country are good that time of year. I agree that the "peninsulars" would be good to visit, Fleureiu, York, Ayre.... Maybe travel along the Great Ocean Road, then into SA along the Coorong, Kangaroo Is then via Adelaide, Port Augusta, Whyalla..... Good towing route without too many steep hills...
