Heading west. Leaving Adelaide for Eucla, 3am start, car only, hopefully reach Eucla before dark. Prebooked motel, next day to Kalgoorlie, the following day to Perth. Two driving, does it sound practical, any advice appreciated. Should we bypass Kalgoorlie, for the park want's upfront payment. Should we not make it in time, lose 109 bucks. Could we gamble on motels in Kal or somewhere else to sleep the night before entering Perth. Couple days and off to Karratha to start a park job.
Hi Graham and Pat, I dont want to take over the forum but that sounds like a good plan, but your first jump adelaide to eucla is a biggy (1,270 kms, 15 and a half hours) starting at 3am would put you there at about six or seven pm, its a long straight bit of road, plenty to look at if you like rugged coastal scenery, keep your eyes peeled for the big fishies I think they are there at this time of year, but anyway with two drivers and a few rests you should be right, the next leg is quite ok (900 kms, 10 and a half hours) we did it a couple of times and there is actually some trees on the other side of the nullabor, I wouldnt book in to any where, certainly wouldnt pay in advance, just a quick look on the web shows that there is ten hotel/motels , and about five caravan parks, in kalgoorlie and the prices ( about $110 per night for a queen ) is not too bad, they are great places to eat as well, plenty of vacancies, anyway have a good one, and watch the wildlife on the road and in the park

I agree with Dave, it is a shame that you guys want to rush the trip across the nullabor as there is a lot to see between ceduna and eucla around the great australian bite Bring your own food and drinks including water as it is bore water out there, bought a toasted ham cheese and tomatoe sandwich and a 300ml choc. milk at the nullabor road house for $10.15 Suggest that you don't do night driving or if you do try and hop behind a road train as the wildlife feed on the side of the road Take your camera Enjoy it, as i am sure you will .............Graham
yeh I forgot about the prices ouchhhhh!!!! all I remember basically is the whales and the sheer rugged beauty of the nullabour, oh and the lack of trees, and the straight road, funny how when one does a lot of trips they seem to get entangled with each other, other seasoned travellers advised me to keep a diary but that is too constrained for me, the only thing close to that which I keep is a vehicle log book (which is meticulous)

I remember being told $5 to refill a 2ltr bottle of water way back, what they dont like to tell ya is there are several free water tanks spaced out along the nullabour off the road a hundred meters. Is this Graham & Pat from the channel country SW QLD?Seems a bit fast for you folks if it is.Ya have to have a beer at the Woodgiemoolfa gararge/pub when ya get there.I love the sign inside,it says"This pub is guarded by shotgun 3 days of the week, you guess which 3!!"Nope,it dont seem practical but doable.Glenn.
Thanks all, we are not the Qeenslanders DubDub.Any tips on storing our van. Cover soon and are not sure how to control insects, should i drain tanks hot water service Truma and leave fridge door open, any suggestions. Will be stored in a caravan park Big4 at Port Augusta.
hope you are ready for a big fright gary as far as prices go for anything, techno talcum powder around the van will hold off ants and other crawlies until it rains, surface spray around entry points, windows, door will hold off the rest and then place the cover on and she should be right, ask the attendant not to place it right on the fence line because when the bad guys get in they are the first ones they will hit, drain your main tank and your heater if it is gas, if 240 leave it full, otherwise you will get a build up of calcium which will blow the element as soon as you turn it back on, better to turn it back on full and then use it when you return, dont forget to turn your gas off ( I know I hear you but we have all done it ) take the milk out of the fridge and empty the potty, and drive bloody carefull, and watch for whales you may only get one chance
