Calling all families with kids on the road!!! My family and I are just about to embark on a 12 month adventure around Australia. Our kids are 9 year old girl and 7 year old boy and two dogs. We have got work up in Queensland for our first stop so the kids will go to school for term 4 of this year, but we will start home schooling as of next year.
Can familes tell me, how are your kids going with home schooling and life on the road. Can anyone tell me what type of lap top to get and who to use as an internet provider. Also who do you use with your mobile phones and how is coverage.
Would anyone like to keep intouch on the road to share experiences or would your children like to email my children and become pen pals? janinehooley@aapt.net.au Thanks heaps guys.
janine, there are of course families on the road the same as you are going to be, its just that they are shy, treat the forum as your own, you own it as much as anyone else, let us know your travels get your kids to put their thoughts down in the forum we would love to hear about the adventures and misadventures, eventually someone in the same circumstances will see and start communicating with you, but till then have a look at how many people are reading the forum, dont be shy to tell everyone what is going on, this belongs to us all not just some who try to take it over, it is yours mine and theirs

Hey Dave, Thanks. We are counting down the weeks - only 10 weeks to go. Packing like crazy and have to repaint the house before we can rent it out. Is getting scary now it is this close. We will keep you all up to date. My hubby rings me every day "Can we go yet?". Will be on the road soon. Janine
janine with the phone and internet Its a pity to say but telstra Nextg is probably the choice in phones as we have been to a lot of places where most other phones don't work. Like back in the CDMA days they were the best. with the internet telstra or optus. You will have a great time and will want to keep travelling once you start. Friends of mine have just left with there kids a little older youngest is 13 for a 3 month stint they should be in Port Augusta about to head up through the centre. They didnt get their school work through correspondence though with a short trip they just got their work from the school they attend. I did correspondence schooling a few years ago with my daughter she liked the hours you only really get enought work for 3 hours a day but your children will learn a lot from the experience of travelling around this amazing country of ours.
