I am new at this .... very new .... a real novice. I have just bought a second hand campervan and at the moment NRMA have her, going over her with a fine tooth comb. I must admit I am a little nervous. I have never done anything like this before. I have been looking through the forum and watching you Davo and Basil and if feel like I know you both already.
I also want to ask how Gracie is I am hoping she is coming along just fine.
I have also been reading all the bits and pieces about this and that and it is very interesting.
Anyway I just wanted to touch base with you all. Love to hear from you.
Nanny mon hey you are welcome here (Basil glows because he got to welcome you before Dave). I didn't know the NRMA (National Railway Modellers Assn????) did the flea comb thing with Vans, thats handy to know.... Errrrrrrrrr I have put my profile up in the Solo Nomads thread, just on the off chance Nanny... Sorry excuse my wit....

No no, sorry, I worded that wrong, NRMA don't do the checks, the garage I use is run by the NRMA road service guys, I always call it the NRMA, dopey me. I am sorry I if mislead anyone. Anyway these guys are just lovely and they have been looking after my car and now my van for me. I tell you they dont miss a trick. I feel much better now that they have her and they have picked up a few bits and pieces that need fixing. I hope to get her back on Monday as they had to order in a few parts, that is the disadvantage of living in a small town but the best part is these guys know me as a person and not a number, and they are all happy to make sure that the van will be in top working order for me.
You never said how Gracie is .... I am anxious to find out as I have a little dog, he is only a pup right now but I know exactly how you are feeling, as I lost my little girlie last year.
Thanks for saying hello Basil, your turn now Dave. Better late than never eh.
Hello right back to you and I must apoligise that I didnt get to welcome you first, but that damn wiley Basil has the fastest fingers in the west, (curses foiled again), good on ya for joining us all here and I hope your forays in to this weird and wonderfull world is all plain sailing, we just hope that we may be of some help or comfort at some point in time, there are a lot of us here and all eagre to, if not help then at least to have a yak about anything at all, please excuse Basil he is of course not quite house trained yet but we are working on him, DOWN BASIL

Thank you for the lovely welcome, no need to apologise at least you have the last word on Basil, for now anyway. I like you blue girlie, how is that tent connected to the back of her. Funny I was only thinking last night that a tent on there would let in a cool breeze when the weather gets warmer. Looks like great minds think a like. Have you opened the back door and attached it to that.
Mind you I am a long way from camping off the beaten track yet.
first up no-one has the last word on Basil, as soon as he wakes up from his afternoon nap he will fire again, the tent setup on the back of little blue is made by sar major in adelaide, it sits on the rear door and pegs hold the whole thing down, basically it expands the whole camper by about 6 feet, we keep the extra engel fridge in there and also slurpy (our porta potty) sleeps out there as well, when we take squeeky (our supply trailer) on our longer trips, the engel sits in there and that makes it so much easier for dressing and undressing in the rear, doesnt scare so many people either, doesnt take long to set up the rear tent and not long to pull down either, if you can get one it is a great extension, Hmmm! great minds think alike thats akin to saying that fools seldom differ

Thanks for all that info it all sounds great. I also want to picks your brains about internet connection, do you have a connection in 'lil blue' or do you go to internet cafes, I have a laptop that I would like to take with me and I would rather use it in the van if I can. It is just to email the 'kids' so they don't worry. You know how it is, when they are little you help them across the road and now it is them helping me across the road. Strange that.
we tried a satelite internet when we went through halls gap to Ballarat and down through geelong along the great ocean road via the otways, but gave it up as a bad joke, too expensive and a pain to setup, too many trees and no coverage, and where does one park?, in amongst trees, we rarely watch tv when we are out there so setting the dish up just to have the internet on is not worth it, we dont go " out there" to sit in the van like some trogladikes do, the 5 minute setup that the satelite providers sprout about is rubbish, it takes me 5 minutes to undo the bunjie cords holding the dish in place in squeaky (our supply trailer), when we stop at little places along the way, usually bakeries or such like. (cos I'm a sucker for a coffee amongst the smells of a bakery), OH GOD my minds wandering MMMMMMMM freshly baked croisants and coffee, what was the question, oh yeh, when we stop we go in to an internet cafe and drop everything in there, far easier than doing it on the road, but a lot of others will shout me down for that, whatever floats your boat, we prefer the company and comradeship of others rather than the net or tv, give me a fire and friends anytime, keep your computer, I'll have the company thank you, look take your laptop with a thumbdrive and drop all the photos and emails on that and when you get to an internet cafe just drop the lot on to yours or their email client, it can be done quickly and cheaply, usually about $3.00. R.E. the rear tent setup, if or when you do get one, grab 2 pvc tubes that are slightly larger than the lifters (the shiny bit) on each side of the rear door, cut a slit down one side of them cut them to length to suit the length of your lifters (the shiny bit) , when you open the rear door and place the tent on the back, place the pvc tube on to the shiny bit and make them take the weight, the idea is that you take the strain off the lifters and thereby make them last longer, at about $150 replacement cost you dont want to replace them too often

Well telly won't bother me as I dont watch it now as I can hear it, I'm deaf, as for the laptop it is just for emails to the kids, perhaps they will be happy with just texts from my mobile. The 'putie will be better at home I think. ta again
first up no-one has the last word on Basil, as soon as he wakes up from his afternoon nap he will fire again,
I did notice that I seem to be the ex officio topic ender....
