Cooper would have to be the worst tyre I have ever used second only to the dunlop rubbish that was on my caravan kept blowing out the walls, have replaced them all with mitchelin much happier camper now my brother swears by Hankook

yep bridgestone only for this little black duck, run the re92s on the magna (2008 3.5 v6) and on the wifes car (ford festiva) the camper runs bridgestone light truck, not only because the mates outlet deals with them along with many others but he has a lot less returns with these, and we get phenominal mileage out of them, R.E. tyre repairs Arkaroola $40 to repair a flatty up there, most brand name tyres come from very similar reply adresses, not saying they are made in the same region (cant afford to say that) but let me say they are mighty close, and all have ho chi min post codes even the coopers, more tread more mileage, bull**** , $99 hell do you know that to replace the cooper or similar 10x15 is exceeding the $300 mark now, making a set worth $1,500 plus fitting and disposal of the old set, most serious off roaders and mining companies are staying with the origanal "skinny's" simply because they dont have the wall failure rate

look honestly there is no great difference between tyre manufacurers nowadays, I use bridgestone light truck but there are many different opinions out there and all are partially right, I find that with the light truck tyres running at 40psi front and 60psi rear I can exceed the 80,000 km mark over most roads barring punctures (touch wood), and yes little blue is a toyota hi-ace long wheel base camper, a yh61, 85 model, running a 3y petrol engine and 5 speed box, not fuel injected or multipoint ignition or anything that I cant work on thank god smile

I'd also go with any tyre with an "LT"rating. You do run higher pressures in them and for dirt roads etc they are not ideal. However the better distance you will get from them far out weigh the disadvantages.
Hey I'd also consider the elcheapos, Diamond Back, Triangle etc they are all made to our standards and are guaranteed. Depends where you live as to your best price available but generally I have found Kmart give the best deal with fitting, old carcass disposal et cetera included in the price....SHOP around as always. DO NOT let some "dude" at the retailer sell you expensive tyres because they are "safer" or "better".....

as usual I concur with our all knowing and illustriously illustrated basil, watch for the specials, el cheapos can be as good as the dearer ones, yes one does suffer over dirt roads, but as a famous man once said "you get that"

OK have spent some time on the phone chasing tyres (it's a bit like mobile phone plans) I discovered that it was cheaper to do the deal with my local goodyear man, I could get the elcheapos for $606/4 or the goodyear wranglers for $708/4. I will of course keep you all informed. Seemed a better deal to pay the extra for a known brand.....Of course I could be wrong...

Basil, the wranglers for $177ea is an absolute steal, my mate couldnt do them at that price even at "mates rates" the best he came up with was $225 plus fitting

Just to add to the options. A caravan mag I have states that regardless of tyre make/cost the value is in the age of the rubber and the quality of the side walls and the taper(read belt layers, width of tread & track type and square shape) on the side of the tread. When offered a range of tyres by a dealer a good test is to staddle the free standing tyre and with both hands push down on the tread, at top dead centre and observe the sag in the tread and bulge in the side walls.The best resulting tyre is the one with the best alround resistance. It could be the most expensive or the cheapest...but they feel it will seperate the best from the worst.
Yeah yeah I know whats it all mean...SIMPLE...$$$$$$$$$$s.

AH, HAH, Dave gets to welcome yet another into the fold, good on ya for joining us in the mayhem there turtle and yes you are dead right about the strength of the tyres, it is also the "freshness" of the tyre, now I can hear the boo's winding up out there in tyre expert land, but my father used to always buy two sets of tyres, he would have one set placed on the vehicle and he would store the other set in the back shed, over time the rubber would "cure" and thereby lengthen the life of the tyres by as much as double, that was in the day of the cross ply, but it still rings true today, if you can, try and get your tyres from a dealer who does not fit that many tyres, you may pay a little more (because of less turnover) but the tyres will last longer, strange but true, hmm
