No 1 that is a misnomour and an outright lie, nobody is conserving the bush, there are very few who give a damn about the bush, a lot of people dont even know or care where or what the "bush" is, the government couldnt give a rats about our most fantastic spots, I have just finished writing up a report that I will be sending to the department of agriculture concerning some of our most beautifull spots, my concerns are feral goats and rabbits and cats, all I obsereved in wilpena, as well as noxious weeds, including brambles and horehound taking over , the "revegitation areas" are a joke, and the recycling and managenment side of some our most pristine wilderness, is well I was going to say a joke, but it is far from that, the government, or should I say the little bug eyed pen pushers who represent US in the government, is more than willing to take our millions and spruke about how they save this and how they save that, but if one goes back in to the history of any given money spinning area then one will find that it was donated by some family or other, the powers that be couldnt give a rats about the environment, as is suitably shown with the murray at the moment, unless someone some where does something we will lose ALL of our beautifull spots to the ferals, weeds and animals including the ones who govern us, the aboriginals that they place in custodial duties to look after their titled lands dont have any idea of spirit of land, how could they, the last one I spoke to up north came from west bloody sydney, whiter than I am, I get very angry about my favourite spots (and there are a lot of them after travelling all my life) just left to die, and yet with the billions of dollars the departments are raking in off us nomads as well as world travellers, and lets not forget these are world heritage areas that I am talking about, they do nothing but feather their own nests, anyway I will climb off my soap box for now, but I will not let up, and I hope that I may have spurred a couple of you people into action as well, its time we stood up and said we are as mad as hell etc. etc.

Using the term Government and bush management in the same sentence is really an oxymoron. Any lateral thinker wouldn't let any governmental agency management a turnstile let alone management anything outside their comfort zone of cappuccino and latte strip . Those ministers deemed responsible for any thing remotely like bush only every fly over it in the government jet to shake hands and kiss babies when they are vote chasing. Even the Queensland pollies who have grazing stations have no idea about the bush. Old Don't You Worry About That Joe and his sons were and possibly still are prime examples of how not to do it with there drag line clearing policy
Another thing that gets up my nose now you have started me is the old catch cry "We must save it for future Generations" Well I've heard that dribble for over 40 years and now I have 9 grand kids and 2 great grankids and access is still denied them to the same tracks of bush I was prevented from entering in my youth , now the tree huggers are wanting to lock up more.
I'm as green as we all are deep down regardless of our politics but it's those bloody dark green frantic s that get all the say. Not happy with land lockouts they are now into marine lockouts , Christ! if this keeps up a man will be lucky if he's allow outside his front door anymore for fear of the thought police grabbing watching and listening
To management bush land we need to take a look and the Yanks and Canadians for models they encourage open access for all and provide the necessary facilities to facilitate it . In our NP parks unless you are in training for the Special Air Service or into extreme sports you have no hope of reaching many of the interesting spots and just plainly forget it if in anyway mobile impaired .
It's ironic when you consider that it's us old farts who for years paid the taxes and all the licence fees to establish these parks and now we can't access them . Now they have to degenerated into a haven for Feral Animals and Bushfire' s we cop leveies on our insurances every time one burns and takes out a residential area.
The list of stuff ups is never ending so I will give someone else a go

oy gimme back my soapbox, anyway contacted the department of agriculture, got put on to another department, the department of ag doesnt exist anymore, got a phone number for the animal and plant commision, the number by the way is 83039510, reported the weeds and other things, said a few things that in hindsight were not nice, got told that the ability to place actionable orders on any given property owner was goverened by that property owners ability (financially) to control the problems (WHAT THE!!!) stated my background in agriculture, stated some figures of application rates of a commonly used herbicide (roundup) stated actual price of approx. $1500 and 2 days to control said weed, to which he stated again the ability of the landholder to control the noxious weed (dopey little snot nosed pencil pusher) to which I answered we are in big trouble if the government hasnt got the financial capability to spray at such a cost, finally got through to him, an inspector is on the way up there today, and a fine will be issued and a control order given, to which I answered, you are going to issue a fine to a government department (us taxpayers) for not doing the job that we pay them for in the first place, to which he answered, yes they must realise the law is the law, to which I said HMMMM!!!! who is in charge here? tottaly frustrated and angry beyond words, hung up on him, drafting a letter to our pollies now.

Bravo, Dave. The lack of action by the government on these very important issues is appalling. Landcare groups are helping a bit but it is never enough - especially in some of the more remote places where you don't have the population base to man big volunteer clean up efforts. Feral animals are another huge problem that really should get more attention and action from the government. Why do we never hear about new programs to stop the cane toads, the cats, the goats, the donkeys and the camels from destroying the bush and killing off the natives?

Also include the feral Deer. They were introduced as a quick buck idea but when the arse fell out of the get rich quick schemes and the Pitt Street farmers found a new tax haven the owners merely opened the gates and little them go . In my area they are real PITA roaming out on to the highway and local roads .
As for so called feral vegetation / weeds in remote areas , one has to ask, is it really out of place or part of the evolutionary chain. Maybe the grasses and vegetation we have assumed as native to the area have reached the end of it's useful life cycle and now nature is finding a replacement . When looking at the so called experts who tell us what is native and what is at risk as lateral thinkers we have to realize we have only occupied this country for a mere 200 years and I doubt if we really know what's out there and what should be there . I doubt if our first occupants know much more about it either
Recently the experts said that the low land gorillas where down to a population of 500 and were in extreme danger of becoming extinct , now they find a previously unknown tribe of over 100,000 living a little higher up the hill , so much for environmental experts

I have a point of view that as always is not on centre.... I reckon the NSW NP&WS should be hung drawn and quartered.....The lets shut down national parks to all but feral greenies attitude gets me. Of course if you are prepared to pay the extortionate fees then it's ok to enter with a 4X4 and rip up everything in your path....Ok yes we need something to keep our "bush" but the heavy handed "unless you pay a fee" approach turns me off....
