what is the reason for the water at rosebary in tasmania to be of such low quality as to be not fit for human consumption, we were there in 2002 I think, and found it astonishing that there was so much beatifull and bountifull water and yet one could not drink a drop, we could not get an answer, hoping to have someone that lives there or knows a bit about it, we met a couple of japanese tourists at ross that were cleaning out some sea shells, I went across to say g'day and to have a look at their collection, only to find out that they had been diving and that the aforementioned collection was indeed was to be dinner

sorry about that, it is of course rosebery, ( I think) stayed there one night, dirt cheap and great owners, bent over backwards for us, and I can tell you it is as pretty as a picture, but dont understand the water quality thing, lake rosebery is just on the outskirts, absolutely, as is all of tasmania, breathtaking

Roseberry, western Tas., used to do a bit of work around there, never heard about the water thing, maybe some Mercury or some mine processed stuff got in it. Its a place to visit a lot of history and big money at times. One thing it rains 364 days a year and the day it doesn,t rain they go fishing. I now live Coffs Harbour too cold in Tas for me now, have travelled around a lot with a van, spent previous 12 months in Queens, now home and spending time here and reading the great places you are all going and seeing. Biodiesel Bob.
gday bob and welcome to the forum, we were in tassie, probably 6 years ago now, loved every second of it although the locals did say that was the hottest it had been in three million years or something (actually got to double figures a few times), the rosebary water thing didnt arise until we went to top up the water tank on our hired motorhome, the lovely lady at the park said we couldnt drink it, that was the first I had heard about it. but when we go full time, after we get our son settled and hang around here for 12 months, we will head back in to tassie for 12 mths also, intend coming back here every 12 months, xmas and all that, love to live there but the dragon says no, so we wont. look western tassie, fanbloodytastic, absolutely beatifull, but so rugged

g,day Dave06, maybe the tank was unclean, anyway as you say it is a great place to visit. A trip you may do when you go over, from Smithton, head into the Tarkine forest and go right over to the west coast, it is magic, we used to go down many years ago from Marawah up north west to the Arther River over even before the bridge, we went way south all the way to the Pieman River, we went in our home made Buggys powered by VW,s, i went there 13 years in a row, it is wild country, but magic. Great to get on board. Bob
bob I dont think a 21' mazda t4600 winnebego alpine would quite do that trip, I think I might have to hire an off roader but I would love to see it, we did the west coast road when we were there, we were going south to north a mob of japs coming north to south cut the corner upon seeing our motorhome rounding a sharp bend, they had plenty of room but panicked, they drove the hire car straight in to the cliff

Davo06, the road over to the coast through the forest is quite good [or was] a few years ago, there is a lot of logging out of there, your unit would do it no worries, check the info centre at Smithton. Biodiesel Bob.
another couple of years bob, another couple of years, watch me go then

Rang my contractor in Burnie and asked if he knew the reason. No Joy, but he did say some of the rivers/streams feeding into the lake have very high mineral content but are well sign posted.
