Hope all Dads out there had a nice day; how did you spend it? Out of interest how do you all rate the day itself (and Mothers Day), shouldn't every day we be appreciated as parents without a designated day?? It appears that the retail industry certainly "flog" it, i.e. how much to spend??? What do you all think?
well as for mothers day we all know that is everyday dont we HMMMM!!!, fathers day, should be more of it more pressys more roast dinners more, more, more, look in all honesty my heart goes out to the ones that no longer have children, break ups and divorces and the ones that have lost their kiddie, to them it is not a happy day, and to those I wish all the sympathy and underatanding that the world can muster, they feel like fathers but dont have that anymore, as we get older the kids grow out of it and it becomes less happy and family orientated and more like "oh this will do him" give me the family orientation anytime, to hell with the gifts, I have it "all" anyway at our age of course we do, either that or we dont want it, yeh I hear ya, off me soap box

Thanks, I had a great day with the kids . I have a great day every day , when my feet hit the floor I know it's not my turn.
I try hard to make mothers day everyday as well, after 40 years of marriage I think I've almost got it right, not sure but must be bloody close now surely

My Fathers Day was not so flash, 2 of the 3 sons turned up for dinner, one of them started a blue with his mother and it all went downhill from there...I'm left with a crying wife, a stack of uneaten food, and the knowledge that I just had a feeling in my water that this would happen.... The earlier part of the day was good though....

Hi Colly, I think it's nice to have one day a year when we make it a point to get together and maybe share a meal with Dad (or Mum) to honour, love and thank them. Otherwise the year, no - make that years, fly by and we don't get around to that specific moment when we say "You are special and we/I appreciate you so much."
I do believe we should skip the gifts though. That is a "jump-on-the-bandwagon action by commercial interests that permeate everything, or at least anything they can. Think Christmas, Valentine's Day. What's next?
I particularly love birthdays. I think that is the time to really celebrate and say to someone you love or care about "Hey, I'm really glad you were born. Here's to you."

Basil, its only one day of the year, which we all have to "have"
Why not have a "Mates Day", the next day - her indoors can resurrect the food, all the untouched booze can be attended too, replay the footy that was missed, and revisit the fishing stories.
Oh, by the way, I have my own thoughts on what you meant by "The earlier part of the day was good though...", how is her indoors anyhow?
Basil I agree with the mates day thing, I just wish I was close enough to go and have a beer with you, give the missus a hug and tell her, it happens all over australia, not all fathers days goes to a warm and fuzzy plan that we all have, grab that van that you just bought and mate take her away for a few days, doesnt matter where you go, find a gum tree somewhere with a creek and just sit, throw some sticks for gracie, we dont need this crap at our age, sorry I was so late at replying but you got me, I've been wrestling with the word's, these will have to do

Sorry to hear you had a crap Fathers Bas, but unfortunately this often happens when families get together. I personally think its about time we scrapped Mothers and Fathers day which lets face it are over promoted by the big stores to make you fell guilty if you can only afford a small presi, and replace it with a Family day with no presents at all just good food, booze (of course) and good company. What do others think ? Happy travelling Keith
Thanks for the support .... I agree and know from experience these things happen. Maybe we should go back to the way it was LOL.... the blokes just used to wander their world looking for a female to mate with, mate and move on leaving the female with all responsibility, much like present day primates do... Basil ducks the flying debris hurled at him for esposing such unchivalrous behaviour....
