During the school holidays Sun 28/9 - Fri 10/9 I join a group of travellers on safari around NSW raising money for charity - this year the RFDS. We camp out, can buy meals in advance, have hoards of fun. Itinerary is Coonamble, Cobar, Ivanhoe, Silverton, Milparinka, Wanaaring, Willie station, Coonamble. I have 1 seat available in my Troopie if you would like to join me. 10 night meals cost $174 & a share in the fuel. You will need your own tent & sleeping gear, I have everything else. A great time is promised with lots of activities & fun people to share the evenings. Contact me asap if you are interested.
absolutely love to go marilyn, but unfortunately commitments here do not allow, but it would be a great way to introduce newbies in to travel, anybody that is a bit concerned about travel out there, this would be a great "tag along" night campfires would be absolutely fantastic, well done you for being involved in such events, should be more of it with all the worthwhile charities

My first travelling trip was with this mob in 1999 - before that hadn't been 'out there' at all - had a 60 series but hadn't taken it off road. Since that year, with the skills picked up from travelling with the group, the support, assistance, safety & overall great fun, I have tripped over much of Oz, sometimes with people, sometimes just by myself (does Slim counts as someone?). You're right - if you are concerned & you want to to learn go with this style of charity group - not the big costs involved with a professional operator. If anyone wishes to know more about this group: police, ambulance & mechanic supported - give me an email.
Marilyn, this is exactly what I keep banging on about (and I bet there are a lot of people out there saying " for gods sake just shut up" ) small trips with maybe freinds or a group such as yours, the freindship and comraderie not to mention the self confidence, is just what the doctor ordered, I speak to a lot of people and most say " oh I would never be brave enough to do that" all I say is baby steps then look out australia I'm on my way, free camps, meeting new people every day, the travel, oh hell done it again didnt I, O.K. off my soapbox

Anything that supports the RFDS is most worthwhile. Just about the most worthwhile charity in Australia. I'd also agree that tagging along with this group would be a far better experience than doing this with a "professional". Maybe I just clash with these people LOL.... Alas during school holidays I don't venture onto the highways.... too crowded with people who have to travel 3000 Km in 2 days...

There isn't too much highway driving - wherever possible back roads are selected. A few people go on this safari in cars but most have 4x4. As you can tell I have a great time. I've been on 10 safaris with this group & keep on backing up for more.
