Trivia or nostalgic interlude???

Today is the aniversary of the last episode of "Blue Hills" by Gwen Meridth in 1976. I was able to listen in at work...This serial gave way to some great expressions, in legal circles if a case was going to drag on it became known as a Blue Hills affair, and slang for breakfast cereal is ubitquiously known as "Blue Hills".
There are few pieces of music in Australia as instantly recognisable as Ronald Hamner's Pastorale - the theme music to ABC radio's serial Blue Hills, by Gwen Meredith, which ran for 5,795 episodes from 1949 to 1976. Best known for his light orchestral and brass band compositions, Ronald Hamner (1917-1996) was an English composer who emigrated to Australia in 1975.
So there you have it....

I think the world is a little poorer for the passing of such things, the imagination necesary to fulfill the play was as great as any movie that now shows on any t.v. screen, I dimmly remember settling in to listen to the great bakerlight box with the huge knobs that we were not allowed to touch just after tea, in fact I recall tea being at such a time as to not interfere with such an event, and if one was to dare speak and to interupt the mesmerising event woe betide you, another great has passed in the form of the second half of butch cassidy and the sundance kid amongst other great films, the good ones and things are dying and being replaced by little weedy whiny leonardo decaprio style wimps, where is the john wayne type, who would stride in god like to a wild herd of rampaging indians and wipe them all out with a slingshot, a horses reign and a couple of rough words, the laughter given to us by jerry lewis or lucille ball, benny hill, the two ronnies, the castle was a classic, feel the serenity, these things and people can never be replaced the world is rapidly changing and for those of us who can remember, it is not for the better

Ahhhhh The 2 ronnies.... jeez I used to whet myself laughing at them. Then there was the Goons, so stupid and I guess slapstick but very funny with a good bit of risque smut and double entendre thrown in....Just finished reading Michael Palin's book Pole to Pole and it bought back memories of the Python crew...And then the Carry on crowd with Charles Hawtry (what is all this frigging in the rigging), Eric Sykes, he made me laugh, strange all those old pommy actors were all as camp as a row of tents and no one worried, gay meant happy then I guess.
Note to myself, ask shrink why I don't laugh like I used to....

And what about "Some mother's do have em" wasn't he just wonderful, and his poor "Betteee".  I also loved "Are you been served".  Benny Hill was another great.

I've just finished watching six episodes of "Open all hours" with Ronnie Barker and Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. Absolute classics as was 'Fawlty Towers".There doesn't seem as though there is much today to replace them. Its interesting that in both Benny Hill Shows and the Carry On mob (remember Barbara Windsor) there was no real swearing or sex scenes as we have today, it was all left up to your imagination. THE GOOD OLE DAYS Keith

I remember Frank Spencer telling Betteeeeeeeee.... "Beteeeeeeee we are moving to Australia" and switchboards around Australia lit up with people asking that Frank not be placed in the same suburb as them....

Yep all done through Innuendo, I had an Aunt who was devoutley religious who found it all rather distasteful and "not really funny"....
