great shots gary wished I had gone that way now, we went north instead, had to put up with more boring gorge views at alligator gorge, and guess what, I forgot my camera, but looks to have been a great day

Nothing wrong with alligator gorge, we were up there a few months ago and we didn't forget the camera, but........... the memory card got corrupted somehow and we didn't get a single shot. Oh well a good excuse to go back

thats what I figure, always find a reason to go back up north, reminds me of the kimberleys I guess, I will go back up there the next weekend that we have off to get some photos for waltzing matilda, she is coming through here in a couple of weeks, but I also love the goolwa, victor harbour region, we go down there every year and try to skip across to K.I., havent done the ****le train yet, it is a must do one day I think, lovely area all through that region

W0W..the old girl is still running...I actually fired that 620 class when I was with the SAR..but at that time she was a Duke. The Edinburgh I think..
Many a good memory of rolling and swaying along the tracks with rhythmic motion shovelling coal into her hungry firebox. It was better when the 520 class came along with oil feeders on a coal bed, made the fireman's life so much more pleasant.
Was a real pain when I transferred to the West Coast onto the narrow gauge and the T class loco's.
Seems they have given the old RX loco a rest after the massive restoration of the 620.

Great Pics... gives me goosebumps.... I recon the 620 on the C o c k le Train is a bit of overkill though... brings back memories. You must have been fit then Grizz, what did the 620 burn an hour a ton?

Some pic's of the Amphibious I came very close to paying $75.000 for her, until a shipwright told me to leave it alone.

Some time later I heard the bloke that did buy it spent a truck load of brass on it.

She used to be a ketch, then a river boat with two huge Windmill like wheels on the arse end that looked like catherine wheels spinning.

She sunk in port Alaide and was recovered by Dick broomhead and was later hired for a part in a movie, some time after that I came along and fell in love.

The last time I saw her was at the Wentworth steam rally and looked a treat, some of her old charm has gone though.

I remember when Paddy Hogg towed the Gem to Swan Hill with the Osca W, I was on the Gem for a short ride, she had to be left below the bridge for a good while before she went into the settlement.

Late in 76 I worked on the Murray River Queen out of Goolwa, cruising up to Big Bend near Swan Reach. The river actually had water in it then, and the scenery was a wonder to behold, not to mention the prolific birdlife.
I stayed at Avoca Dell near Murray Bridge about 12 months ago. The river was more than a metre below sea level, and the Murray Princess ambled by on the weekends.
I also went down to Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island during that time. The lakes were either low or dry, and the river doesn't flow to the sea anymore. So sad.
Maybe the floodwaters down the Darling will eventually top up the Murray if NSW cotton and rice growers, and the Vics let it pass. Not a very amicable way to manage the life line of SA's water supply.
Great pics to give you something to remember the Murray by.
