Journey is Getting Closer

Well as promised I have put up pictures of my van conversion from humble Toyota Hiace Commuter to full-time Mobile Home.

I thought this would only take a couple of months to do, that it would be a straightforward procedure.  But I definitely know now I am no cabinet maker and it's likely to take much longer than I thought.  I must say though I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of this project.

HAH!!! if we are interested, mate, looks pretty good to me, the solar panels look to be pretty easy to get off, is that going to be a problem.

the build is coming along swimmingly and looks to be well thought out, as I say take it easy, keep a good sense of humour and a box of bandaids, she's coming along well

Hi Dave

I put a lot of thought into the solar panels being nicked and I discussed the possibilities with the fabricator who made the rack.  He will be applying some special 'gunk' over the nuts and thread and he assured me the only way they will come off is by hammer and chisel.  But we both agreed if people want to really pinch them they will find a way.  

I figure you'd need two, maybe three people to get them out plus ladders and tools etc, so I'm hoping I would spot someone trying before they managed to pull it off.

Looks most professional Frank.... Have you made provision for your Cherries either frozen or dried? Um I'd be concerned that some cretin does not throw something onto your pannels and break them, is there polycarbonate sheet over them? and can you give us a detailed itinerary so that I can try my solar angle grinder out on the legs of your solar panels?

solar panels have come forward in leaps and bounds as far as technology and strength is concerned, advertised on ebay a little while back was aset of secondhand panels which had been through the hailstone storm that sydney endured a few years back

apparently they copped stones as big as golf balls and some a little larger, given the terminal velocity of a stone that size smashing in to a solar panel that was supposedly flat to the ground and not breaking it, then I think these should be fine unless you get another idiot like that feller in adelaide just a little while ago who was throwing stones from an overpass in to car windows that were the size of house bricks

solar angle grinder, hmmm!!! what if you wanted to use it at night??? lol!!

Thanks for the complements.

Yes the cherries are in season now, got some today thank for that tip.

Dave mentioned solar panels have come a long way in technology they will be ok, unless they get a direct strick from a bolt lightning then my power needs are no more LOL.

The solar angle grinder hmmm I'll tell you what Basil, I will keep the lights on in van so you can spot me, can't wait to see how long the extension cords going to be.
