well it's finally happened the global destroyers (developers) are moving into the very heart of a much beloved and infrequently visited peice of heaven,
it is rumoured that the bay of fires is about to receive "the treatment" find a paradise and put up a shopping centre, a mall and 150 million story apartment buildings,
this peacefull, absolutely lovely peice of paradise is going to be "modernised, bitumised and bastardised, all in the name of progress
gone will be the free camping, gone will be the free spirit attraction of the place, gone will be the wilderness factor, the beach will be "sanitised and dehumanised"
the mayor of paradise was on the 7.30 report last night stating "we will not have a surfers paradise type development here" since when can a local mayor have a say against developers, the high court challenge took the decision away from our state government over the lecornu site in adelaide just recently, so what chance a small town mayor
if you are even remotely thinking of travelling to the little island paradise, do it very soon, as soon as these mongrels get their foot in, it just blossoms like a cancer, our little peice of heaven is about to fall bigtime, it will be marinas by the mile, cafe latte shops with snotty nosed upstarts with "may I take your order" pay as you enter scenic tours, no scruffs alowed
it is with great sorrow and heavy heart that I watch, as our little wild retreat is slowly torn to shreds, not since the protests of the franklin have I felt so feeble

That's progress. It's happening all over and as you say the local council and the residents don't get a look in. Once the DA's are approved you will be told, as part of the mandatory public consultation process, want your getting like of lump it . Sorry mate that's a fact of life in the 21st Century
The big thing that developers do is before putting in any DA's for approval they buy a home in the area and move the family in. When the residents get wind of the development they then say we live here and wouldn't do anything to harm our kids environment, bringing kids into the picture evokes the emotions like nothing else can and wins the hard core over . After the development is approved and sold off to another out of town developer to finish off they move the family to the next town down the coast and it starts all over . NSW North and Mid North Coast Coast is a prime examples of the above as I suppose the entire coastal strip is.

Yes, I don't know why everyone wants to live on the coast, with all this talk of see levels rising is that such a good idea?

Global warming, rising sea levels, more fishing holes ,Bring it on.
If the water comes up then the greenies and NP's won't
have any beaches to lock people out of Oh! bugger .
I sometimes wonder why National Parks supported by the Dark greens go to such lengths to lock people out of the very thing they ask us to fund , are they growing something they don't want us to see , just a thought .
Juding from some of their decisions of late I think they are getting into their own happy bacy and magic mushrooms
