satellite tv

Hi, this is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this correctly.  My husband and I will be travelling and working for a long period of time and are thinking of installing satellite tv in our van.  We will be staying (probably for months at a time) at very remote locations, where no usual tv is available.  We don't know much about satellite tv but are looking at two co's, - i TECH and Access Antennas.  Has anyone had experience with either of these?  Any advice will be helpful, anything you think we should know - preferably in not too technical jargon!

hi Jayne, welcome to the forum, no you are not doing it correctly and as punishment you will be immediately evicted from the forum and banned from returning until you do get it right, "ONLY KIDDING"

if you have a nose back at the main page in general about ten posts down you will see a post stating "satelite tv help please" in there we mulled a couple of things over

but anyway apart from that, we own a cheapy one, we have taken our trusty I-tech world "cheapy" one all over the place and without any problems, it is a bit of a pain to set up, having a cheap compass and the elevation thingy on the side is not real flash, but if you use the buzzy satelite finder thingy then you will eventually get it

we find we always have a lot of "helpers" around who "know" what they are doing and between 10 - 15 fellers, all very "knowledgable", we end up with a picture that we dont watch anyway because we end up sitting around talking, thisa happens even in bush camps where there is nobody for miles, they come out of the trees

the I-tech world one is a chinese copy of the "brand" name ones and work just as well, however some instructions are in chinese, but they are able to work on 12 volt which is a bonus

I, and a couple of others, have given shortcut url's to satelite positioning aligning software, sounds technical but basically the optus d1 satelite is geostationary (it lives) just above new guinea, dont know why, I guess it likes it there, but the trick is to "find it" with your dish, wherever you are in australia it is in a different position, not the sat but your dish, these programs will help you find it easier,

if you email Basil and tell him how much you like him he has promised to send a program that his son wrote, clever little chook that he is, I barely know how to turn my computer on!!
