We have a 2006 Ford Territory RWD(dual fuel) without a rig! Due to the economic downturn, our initial deposit on one of "them European vans" is now a pipe dream . Cannot reasonably justify spending over $55,000 when we can get a good, late model Aussie-made van with the extras we want for a lot less. Trouble is....... can the Territory reliably tow the much heavier Aussie caravan? We are looking at an 18' (or there-abouts) rig. Would really like to hear from forumites who have a Territory. How does it tow, what does it tow etc. etc.

We have a 07 territory rwd.just did a trip to tassie,vic and canberra from townsville.the more we travelled the better fuel consumption we got.we towed a 16ft jayco pop top without any problems.am now looking for an 18ft van .territory can easily tow well over 2000kg without any problems.the only minor irritation was only one petrol tank.on the highway the territory is as good as any 4wd and more comfortable. rocan
Watch the tow bar size, if you have one fitted already make sure it has the correct ball weight rating for the van you select Just had to up size mine on a Subaru Outback as they have two sizes ( Why defies logic ) they can fit and mine from new was the smaller unit . $650 to up size, not a cheap exercise .
When you buy the van put it on the dealer to supply and fit the electric brake sender unit to the car as part of the deal other wise be prepared to spend extra dollars .

Hi there, we tow a 16ft jayco poptop with our 2004 Territory RWD. Hubby is the expert in our family, (I'm a tow learner), and he says he is very happy with it. Fuel economy is good and I agree that the territory is much more comfortable than some of the 4WD I have travelled in. We also have Rhino roof racks to carry a small tinnie. Beware of the load limits for the Territory roof as we were told if we exceeded the limit, we could jeopardise our insurance in the event of an accident. I am hoping to upgrade the Jayco to something with an ensuite in the next year or so, but we will probably need to upgrade to a heavy duty towbar. Good luck with whatever you choose, safe travels.
Thanks to all who replied to my query. We have today bought a 2007 Paramount Delta 3 (21' external) with a tare weight of just a tad over 1800kg. This will fit in nicely with the Territory's capacity. Very excited at the purchase as the van has been on only one trip and has been very well maintained.
