You have to remember that the computer nerds who put the descriptions in the system for the sales rep to chose from hasn't been in the outdoors and they are outside their comfort zone unless it comes with a latte and extra milk/ cream .
Built a 8x4 hot dipped gal trailer for a mate to drag his golf cart around, had done heaps of 6x4 7x5 without rego problems all coming in under the weight requiring brakes and all engineering certified , Not the 8x4 12 kg over, had to fit electric brakes and it now requires a blue slip every year . Had I have realized I would have left the tailgate at home for the weigh in to avoid the hassle. Didn't fit the norm in the RTA guide so the problems getting it rego went on and on. Finally they wrote a new description after much debating and verbal engagement. I think they gave up when they realized I wasn't caving in.

I really dont understand the question, I have a camper trailer sitting out in the yard, when I register it I do it as a trailer, the camper section is just something the trailer carries, nobody would try to register the thing as a load of rubbish if you are making a dump run
just register it as a trailer that is worth, I dunno, say $10,000 and insure it the same but in " added extra's" place camping setup valued at whatever it is valued at,
I have done this for years, costs me bugger all and never had a problem!!

My CT is registered as a Box trailer...and insured...the problem arrose when I had brakes fitted and new compliance plate added...as the GVM went from 749 too 1,100kg..
its sorted out..but would be easier if they had a catergory of CamperTrailer..like they do for your lil blue.
oh yes simplicity, it really is the playground of the common man but government departments seem not to know this or dont want to know about it
I still dont understand why it had to go to a different category, just because the trailer is capable of carrying 1100 kgms does not make it anything but a trailer
our trailer at the farm is capable of carrying something like a 45 ton payload but it is still registered as a trailer, the carrying capacity or what it is able to carry does not affect what it is
when the circus comes to town and you see a trailer full of lions, would that be registered as a lion, I think not, do you register your boat trailer as a boat, your horse float as a horse, of course not
a trailer is a trailer regardless of what it carries or what it is capable of carrying, and brakes make no difference to the entitlement of being a traler, and it should be registered as such, now insurance is a different kettle of fish all together
oh boy the trouble I had insuring little blue you dont want to know about, talk about pigion holes, it took me over an hour to get anyone to even think about insuring it, nobody wanted to touch it, ten years later and I am still trying to get the premiums down to a reasonable stage

We carry our bikes sometimes attached to the back of the camper trailer and thought we should do the right thing and get the bike carrier number plate for it. Found out that yes you can carry them there but no we can't issue the extra number plate for a trailer ,only for cars. It doesn't make sense to me.
HAH!! HAH! HAH!! they are simply idiots arent they, hell you'd think at least one or two would show just a little bit of common sense,
we overcome their stupidity by trying to work out just how bad they are and then circumventing them by saying "I would like a replacement numberplate for my trailer please, and may I have the narrow one, thank you"
if you give them too much information it just overloads their thought process and they are of course not paid to think,
