It's not just the Yanks, but also some Europeans.  It's a tricky bit of road, especially towing a van, and I would imagine coming face to face around one of those headlands would be quite "interesting". I towed Roma along the GOR last Feb, and had the Landcruiser "Rosy" in 3rd or 2nd gear most of the way, to slow down for sharp curves, and climb up and out of gullies.
It is such a beautiful drive, but quite an adventure as well. By the time I arrived at Apollo Bay, I was buggered.
When I'm travelling around this wide, brown land of ours, I have a small tape recorder next to me to record silly signs, interesting place names and other quirky attractions, with my own personal commentary.
Safe and happy travels. Cheers Granny

It's not just the yanks, we get a lot of European tourists, especially Germans who also drive on the "wrong' side of the road.  Speaking of signs, in Perth in the 70's there was an African Safari type lion park where you could drive your car inside and get up close to the lions. A very politically incorrect sign at the entrance gate said:

ENTRANCE FEE     -     $10.00 per car
POMS ON PUSHBIKES - Admitted FREE.

Of course you couldn't get away with that now but it did get a laugh. Even ex Brits known for their sense of humour saw the funny side.
That includes Mrs Bridgee who has called Australia home for 35 years and has even had the operation...  thongs surgically implanted on her feet.

Sorry Granny I didn't realise you were going to write the same first line as me, I must have been composing my reply to Dave06 at the same time as you but you posted yours before mine!  Oh well, as the saying goes "great minds think alike".

I've just discovered how some posts are duplicated. If you click on REFRESH just after you've posted a message, it uploads your message again.

G'day ..

We hired a car in Ireland in 2003 and it had a sticker on the dash that reflected onto the lower windscreen with a left pointing arrow and the words 'keep left'.  Very effective.

I also keep a photographic record of unusual road signs that I encounter.  Should have kept one of the strange bathrooms & toilets that you see in the UK & Europe.

Hi Bridgee. I don't mind if someone thinks along the same lines. In fact it's quite flattering. I'm enjoying reading what others experience on their travels and adventures. It's a good life.
Merry Christmas and a good 2009 to you all.
Cheers Granny
