River Murray

We have just come back from 4 days at Goolwa, pretty liitle town, much nicer than Victor Harbour.

The river is looking terrible, there was a westerly blowing for much of the time we were there, pushing what little water there was, back upstream.
The water was back to the channel markers and there was actually people playing cricket on the exposed sand flats at least 100 m from the shore line.
It is an absolute disgrace that water is being used way upstream for the type of crops that shouldn't be grown in Aust and the wastefulness of open irragation channels in victoria is criminal.

If anyone is ever down that way pop into the RSL club, very friendly bunch of people. Open every second Friday from 4.30pm plus sunday afternoons.

G'day,

Goolwa and Victor Harbour I have spent many hours in those spots with a line in the water, just the mention of those two names brings back a lot of good memories.

It is a shame about the lack of water at Goolwa now, the fact that a lot of it is being used for irrigation in Victoria reminds me of some of the old westerns I have seen over the years, the river runs through my property so I will do as I like with it, bad luck for you, until that attitude is changed then things will remain the same.  Here's hoping sanity prevails soon.

Best Regards and Safe Travelling.

John

yeah I totally mourn the loss of these fantastic recreational areas, meningie, milang and goolwa, but I live in hope that this is merely a blip on the radar and that this year will bring record rains and the system will revive, but I also beleive in santa claus and the easter bunny, my worry is that if it does look like coming back to life the powers that be will over allocate again and we will still be in the same boat,

unfortunately life is changing and it is not for the better, get out and see it today, tomorrow it will be gone

until we take "money" out of the system nothing will change, mankind is doomed to extinction, that is my honest belief, as an example the smelters here in pirie cant meet their emission targets to reign in their greenhouse gas emissions to an exceptable standard so our pollies in their wisdom gave the smelters an exemption to continue to pollute

the pollies are not fair dinkum, they are going to kill us all, the human race will be extinct within one hundred years if things are not done now

in our race for the almighty dollar we are sacrificing EVERYTHING!!! including our very existence itself,

the worlds richest people are rich by acheiving absolutely nothing, until we change this system and recognise that we are part of the system we are doomed to extinction,

dont forget we have only been on this planet for a heartbeat in evolutionary terms, the dinosaurs ruled this planet for millions of years, we have only walked this earth for a few thousand and most of that was on four legs

G'day,
Just goes to show we are experts at stuffing things up, including our own Planet and Lives, and to think we actually pay these morons (Pollies) to do it for us.

Best Regards and Safe Travelling.

Great spots both of them . Couldn't agree more about the growing of crops that have a high water dependency, bloody stupid . Growing crops like cotton when you can buy products made of Egyptian Cotton ,regarded as the finest in the world for next to bugger all here in OZ. Then there's rice , need I go on

Those open channels are just so water wasteful it make a grown man cry

            G,DAY
Well watch out SA your about to have more water taken from u.
The VIC.goverment is building a massive pipe line from the GOULBURN RIVER to MELB. [which runs to the murray] to backup there system and not a whimper from the SA gov.  I will admit that they are starting to cover the channels and they say that will make up for what they take and dogs will fly south for the winter to
Up here where i live we have Lake Buffalo which is a coffer dam built many years ago, the ViC gov. owns all land to allow for the building of BIG BUFFALO that would make HUME WIER look loke a puddle  but would the SA GOV.back the push  nawww all labour or green pollies along the river.
I better shut up

It's really very sad... A few years back I travelled by Paddle Steamer in the Source to the Sea regatta on the Murray and the river was high then. Still the fault of all the problems, the salinity, the irrigation etc was all started by 2 Yanks, the Chaffey Brothers (just Google) who ruined California and came to Australia and did the same thing here.....
Maybe it would have worked if Australia had remained a set of small colonies with a population of 2 million people....
