Write it up!

Bubs made mention of writing up the trip.  I think that if we feel comfy writing about trips both long and short, it's a great thing to do, almost theraputic in a way as it really makes one think about the people you meet, places you visit etc and great to read again later too.
I started writing about my trips when first bought my dear little Whippet Clancy into my life.  So the travel tales (or should I say tails?) are as seen through the eyes of Clancy.
I have not been paid for anything but the installments 'pawed' whilst on our 2006 WA adventure have been printed in our breed magazine and I got some lovely comments.
Also, perhaps one day you will publish your written works, the magazines are always asking us GN's to send in our stories!

yep, I've been asked many times by different mags and papers, but I find their deadlines and write to size (we need a story thats 5 paragraphs long) a bit of a handfull and to me a bit constraining but if you can do it and if you can make a quid then all the best to you!!!

Which magazines?
I got a million of 'em, stories that is.
Well, that is I write my travel stories and offer them to some of our well-loved travel mags, but they tell me they don't take freelance contributions. A web site, Groovy Grandmas, does publish my stories and pays for them. Apart from that, it's a good site - very informative.
If you can provide the names of some mags which do take freelance travel stories and pictures, I'd be eternally grateful, and everyone can have a read.
Cheers Granny

Curious about this very same question myself.
The mags I've read appear to have a regular set number of contributors, I used to write for a magazine back years ago, the pay was shocking back then. You did it more for the love then the money.

I think a lot here would be able to get some pretty interesting blogs going, if your into writing about your experiences and not worried about earning money from it a blog would be a good way of letting the masses know, be surprised how many people subscribe to and read blogs.

this is about as much writing as I would like to do for now. the mags and papers do watch this and other websites, they already know about who is on here and who is not, I know that they have contacted others from this forum, so I am sure if they wish to they will contact you in the not so distant future

I have written for a couple under other names and found it to be not so rewarding, it is time consuming and the pay is not so great, the deadlines are a pain and the write to fit rubbish is a nightmare, as soon as one gets a following the pressures get greater, not a path that I would direct ANYBODY into. and to try and glamorise the position is simply irresponsible

I may change my mind as I get older and my time is not so limited, but for now no thanks

blogs are okay but there are always clowns out there who don't travel and then just set about destroying the things that you may write, then they question everything that you place in writing, not for me thanks, I'd rather travel

I was approached by a business associate of my BIL and Sister.
I am being paid $400 for a short story i.e. 1000 words, and it will continue for the next 5 issues this year (at least). I felt this was a good reward to the hour or so it took me to get it together.
Cheers!

make sure you keep hold of the copyright and any ensueing ongoing funds of any impending books or quotes. be very carefull. the pay is pretty good this time but if you are asked to be a "constant contributer" be wary

Hi Granny

C'van and Motorhome ask for stories almost every issue, and certainly CW used too, as I have a campervan I am a member of CMCA and they ask members for travelling tales too.
There are other mags out there but cannot quite run to buying them all, especially as I am not in the market for a brand new mega bucks van right now!
