g'day T.V. and welcome to the forum, what to take on a trip oh jeezzz!!! theres a question with a million answers

I carry a stihl 042 chainsaw in squeeky just to grab some wood out of the creeks on the way to the campsite, carrying a chainsaw then means one must have the appropriate fuel, I also carry a 4 stroke Honda e1000 generator (never used) so fuel must also be carried for that, if you are not going to have fires then the chainsaw would indeed be a waste of space

I have seen little two stroke generators and battery chargers out there but not really all that often, nearly all is four stroke,

inbuilt diesel Genny's are becoming more popular nowadays, as they draw off the vehicles main tank and are usually quieter, one can hear the two strokes screaming for miles and therefore not that popular, they also foul up plugs and as such are usually unreliable and more difficult to start

Yes, our intention (at this time) is to travel around Australia very slowly.....probably on the road for 2 years or more in the single stretch.....so we will spend a considerable time in the bush with campfires I think.

My Shindaiwa 488 uses a tankload every 30 minutes.

So I think that a 5 Litre container of premixed 25:1 fuel would be more than enough for a 2 year trek....and be of assistance to other travellers that may need usage.

would have thought that a small chainsaw would be a must for the type of travelling you are going to do.

we can cut all the winter firewood for a year on less than 5 litres so you should have ample. the old 25.1's will last forever but the plugs oil up easily so guess you already turn it off by cutting the fuel supply, burns the excess oil of the plug and leaves it dry.

Speaking of chainsaws we checked out the chainsaw sculptures at Dartmoor Vic last year, they are really amazing and worth a look if anyone is going that way.

Thanks for the input......looks like chainsaw usage is the way to go. So we will certainly look closely at storage capability within rigs when we end up purchasing.

Yes, I always burn off all the fuel in the motor after emptying the fuel tank. A very good tip for all to adhere to.... thanks for noting it.

Rather a winch on a 4X4 to drag the wood off the road , mostly carry an axe for other cutting needs like fire wood or use the winch to drag a dead one back to the camp site.

Carrying additional fuel blends just another hassle I don't need.

LOL, Yes its ether in an aerosol can... metho works as well...
