I've never camped at mambray creek simply because one must pay the park entrance fee of $7.50 per vehicle and then another $15.00 to camp there making a total of $22.50, if you go to a c/p close by then you can get showers and power for that price,

or you could grab a copy of camps australia 4 book and find a free camp nearby (plenty in this area) and just stay there for nix

Gee Daveo, are you on commission from Camps?
I do agree it's a very comprehensive resource for camping and travelling, and the maps are pretty good too.
Who manages that CG? Charging so much to put rubber on dirt seems an insult if there's nothing to maintain such as amenities.
Live and learn, as we all are, all the time.
Word of mouth is still the best form of publicity, positive and negative.  This site is a wonderful source of such publicity.  It's great to have such honesty.
It's a pity it takes one bad experience to bugger up a great trip.  The next destination will be better, I hope.
See you on the road sometime.  Cheers Granny

no I'm not on a commision from the camps ausy book but if I was I'd have a few quid from it by now, I reckon I've sold hundreds it just makes sense to me that to outlay $70 or whatever it is nowadays for the book is very little if one is travelling,

if one takes the average c/p at say $25 per night (well over here it is) then that outlay can be recouped in under 3 nights free camping, and to be honest free camps abound in this region, just ask a local!! or me, it's my backyard

if however one is on the eastern shore where I have heard c/p's at $80 and up for one nights kip, in your own rig, well then it is recouped in one night,

I am a big promoter of free camping as quite simply I HATE caravan parks, realistically who would charge $80 - $100 per night just to have a bit of power, a little bit of water and showers

it's a blatant rip off by greedy mongrels who could not give a stuff about service or the people who frequent the parks I refuse to bow to greed and will park my rig in beautifull natural surroundings for free whenever and wherever I can while I can, and I will encourage as many others to do the same

aparently the mambray creek c/g is making itself a new venture whereupon the camp ground is part of the park (owned by national parks and wildlife) they are aiming the whole thing at overseas tourists as a whole experience,

once again a question of we (the people) own these places but are being slugged enormous charges to go and see OUR OWN land, then no upkeep being performed on the land itself including the eradication of feral animals, that includes rangers, I count them as being the same, and noxious weeds abound everywhere

the camp can be veiwed here
http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks/sanpr/mountremarkable/visit.html

there are facilities such as showers and toilets but the part that I hate is the noxious weeds and feral animals are allowed to prosper, I see it more and more everytime I visit these areas, they were better off before the intervention of our so called rangers (more like parking inspectors nowadays as that is their biggest job)

if you wish to see good management practices at a reasonable price then shoot up to arkaroola, no weeds, no feral goats or rabbits, just pristine wilderness and it is in private hands, thats the difference

yep! I keep banging on about "the bible" simply because it has the potential to not only enrich one's lifestyle but also save the bearer $$$$$$1,000's

I dont benefit from the sales of the book but I do benefit when people such as yourself use it and save great swags of money,

dont forget to place new spots that you may find on your travels in to the author so they can update the book for us, I dont mind making a fellow traveller well off if it is helping so many save a heap of money such as he does

to be honest with you if I could spare the time I would shoot down there right now for good, the weather would not put me off, one can always get warm but not cool, thermals are light and airy and very warm, and cheap, I think Tassie in the winter would be amazing, waterfalls at full tilt, snow on cradle mountain, ice on the roads, talk about a winter wonderland, we drove the western teirs road whilst it was raining, I had to have my window down, the smells, the sounds, the sights were amazing, all senses filled

when we were there the temps were hovering around the 16-22 deg mark which may sound cold but just remember we left home after nearly two weeks of temps in excess of 40 deg (one day of 47.6) and night time temps of 32-35degs, so it was heaven on a stick for us, we wore light jumpers but were not cold, I would go in May without a moments hesitation but thats me, and I am full of rheumatoid arthritis, just have a good doona

yes you are right I must update my rantings, the camps aus 5 book I haven't seen as yet but from what I've heard does not contain the snaps which is a pain in the bum because I base my nights camp on photographs of the spot, I will go down to my local camping joint and check it out and just see if it has snaps, when I get the time

oh and one other thing, decorum please, one does not WHOOHOO! it is just SOOOOOO!!! common don't you think!! and besides I'M AS JEALOUS AS HELL!!!!! and should not be teased like that

Dilemma dilemma, as for the cold well that doesn't bother us we live in a place called Bridgetown and apparently it is THE coldest place in WA, could have fooled me. Anyway it sounds wonderful Tassie in winter but ......ice on the roads?? been there not fun, especially when you are going up a mountain  (Mt Buffalo) and you start going backwards and going on the wrong side of the road but hey a busload of Vics came along and they were brilliant, got us out in no time.  Might need to think about this one.

Camps 5 comes with or without snaps we got the Camps 5 including camp snaps.

Decorum!! what the!! I was brung up proper was I ....and when we call in to see you around 18 - 20 th April I will be able to shout WHOOHOO WHOOHOO WHOOHOO !!! don't care how common I is !!

achtung ein hilden sprechen zee schnappens,

what is it with all the german language around lately, why are we all, supposedly grown men and women, suddenly for no apparent reason bursting into sherman!!

update on the camps website now shows camps 5 with schnapps so I stand corrected
