Anyone coming to Cairns?
Call into First City Caravilla for a chat. It would be great to have some new company.
I've been here 8 months, and the park has been all but empty since the dry season nomads left last September. I'm really hanging for some fresh company to share happy hour with.
Happy hour isn't really happy with no one to share it with.
See you all soon. Cheers Granny

I usually stay home at Easter. Let those who "need" to be on the road have it to themselves and those who wish to pay extortionate holiday prices pay them. While I have a quite time sussing out places that hand out free Easter Eggs ( Bunnings!!!).....
I remember when my kids were at school and we used to go away @ Easter.... I love remebering the traffic, 1 Easter it took us 8 hours to get home from Ulladulla normaly a 2.5 hr trip....

We decided to go bush for an easter back in 86 ,just finished the house in Montrose and was looking for a restful break, so took to the road with loaded 4by heading for the golden triangle with my detector, Got as far as the tullamarine turnoff and ran into traffic, slow bumper to bumper from there to kyneton, took us 8 1/2 hours to get to Cairn Curran wier across Melbourne and up the Calder Hwy
Then we had to tolerate noisy 2 stroke and 4 stroke off road bikes all weekend,
Peace on earth to all, provided you stay home and safe,

yes, I like the free easter egg idea, even though I rarely eat choccy, I go just to have a nose

last time we tried to get home from adelaide over an easter break it took us 12.5 hours, normally 2.5 and nearly got hit 3 times from idiots

if I go away, I head far north right away from the clowns

I too am like the majority.  Stay at home for the easter break and school holidays.

Petrol prices, accomodation prices and  food prices all sky rocket.  And the traffic is unbelievable.  More chances of having a (no fault of yours) accident during this holiday break.  And the loonies come out in the thousands.  Not only on the roads but at just about every camping spot.

Think I will stay at home and live to fight another day that is not during the holiday break.  Will be on the road until a coupla days before easter and the school holidays and hitting the road again for 6 months after.

Take care all those on the road and have safe journeys.

Been a number of years since we travelled at Easter, just too many 'ratbags' on the road..as someone said.... trying to cram two weeks into 4 days. As we are empty nesters, but still working, we are fortunate to be able to take our trips between school hols.

This is probably cheating, but at Easter we will be well away from the hordes, on a cruise ship somewhere off the coast of Vietnam.
Have not been back in 40 years, so I doubt the one day we get ashore will be sufficient time!
Cheers, Tony

Heading to the beach house at Loch Sport - hopefully the weather will be good for a bit of boating and kite flying.

Actually for those grey nomads who enjoy a different pastime there is a great kiteshop on the web -westwind kites. I have bought 4 kites from them -2 delta's which are so easy and fun to fly.

They are very helpful and I really enjoy the pastime.

I'm housesitting in Melbourne over Easter. NEVER travel then or summer school holidays. After Easter will head towards FNQ, hopefully meeting with friends on the way. Keep safe if you are mad enough to be out there over the holiday.
Cheers Helen

We avoid camping in school holidays tried it once or twice and too much lack of repect for other campers from the family groups drinking all night while the kids rampage through caravan parks. Not that they are all like that but there is usually one group in parks that think they are on hols and what the hell. We were in WA a few years ago large group camping drinking and the kids were having rock throwing games then were all jumping on my husbands harley (definitely not the done thing on a harley davidson) and the parents just laughed. We stayed one night and moved on. So as soon as the school holidays are over in April we have finally decided we are going east to Narooma for a week. chezgo

Just thought I would add that we can only go away in school holidays and yes unfortunately we have to pay top dollar but our son finishes high school at the end of 2010 and then we can travel when we want to.

We went to Hervey Bay last Easter and travelled up the Pacific Hwy (big mistake), we have been up the New England Hwy and went in to QLD through Gundiwindi this time we are heading up through Armidale, Toowoomba and then accross to Hevery Bay, I know it is a bit hilly that way but we get to see some new areas and will free camp on the two nights that it will take us to get there.

So if you have any ideas on good free camp spots that are on our way please let me know.

Just putting the finishing touches on our new custom built kitchen for our camper. ( Custom built by hubby & me) One more coat of paint & then we can start packing.
It will be great to have a bench and drawers instead of plastic containers. No more shuffling!!
