Farina is 26 km north of Lyndhurst or 51 km south of Marree and is the ruins of a former town on the Ghan railway line. Evidently it was once the railhead and as such was quite busy, but when the railway pushed north to Marree it was abandoned and is now nothing but ruins.

On the banks of the Farina creek (usually dry) is the Farina campground, maintained by the owners of the cattle station on whose property it exists. It is only 2 or 3 km off the main road and is a delightful place to spend a couple of days while exploring the ruins, the historic cemetery and the old railway bridge etc (see photos)

The owners take the trouble to slash the grass under the trees, there are BBQ's and hot showers (provided you light the fire in the donkey), and at $3.50 pp/pn it's a steal although I could have thought of a better place to put the visitor's book.
