Very interested in real life reports of K's /100 the book said 7.1/100 and a tow capacity of 2800 kg , is that right

Hi Wombat we have a terracan but not diesel its 3.5 petrol its a 2002 model and still going as new with no problems except the auto window wire inside the doors has snapped on two of them. we get 9.0/100 and yes the tow capacity is huge 2800kg. I must say they are great for towing and can hardly feel you are towing anything. Hyundai have not replaced it they have stuck to the smaller models we are trading ours in around Oct even though has only done 80,000 and are going for the tuscon 2.7 awd as my husband likes his hyundai's but the towing capacity is no where near the terracan. The terracan is nice looking inside as well leather seats and woodgrain interier when they bought them out they were a cheaper competition version of the Prada. You don't see many of them on the road maybe thats why they stopped production sometimes people are put off going with Hyundai and other cheaper makes due to the re-sale value drops significantly when you drive it out of the yard but we have been very happy with ours. chezgo

Chezgo , thanks for that it enforces my view of them . Spoke with the local dealer and he has three coming in this Friday, 2007 models. They are coming from the chairborne division of the Rural Fire Service with max km's of 35000 and they are all Common Rail Diesels .. They reckon about $26000 should be the asking price. As a second vehicle not sure if I need to go that high but will see on Friday.

Hi Wombat,
i have a diesel Terracan and love it, it tows my van very nicely, Returning 12.3LPH towing.
The reason they stopped making the teracans is it doesn't meet the european emmission standards. The cost to meet the standards meant the replacement was going to be same as the prado and they figured people would go down that path.
I believe towing capacity in Oz is only 2500Kg but is rated at 3000Kg in europe

Recently bought Terracan Highlander 2005 up-date model with 92,00 k's. Find that the vehicle is returning 10.38 L/100 k's on just local running around in the city. Previous owner towed a 20 ft van from Adelaide - Melbourne and Adelaide - Brisbane and returned 7.9 L/100 k's!
Towing limits are 2500 kg with a 200 kg towball weight. We intend to get a 20 ft van which should keep us within these limits so that you don't jeopordise insurance.
It is also possible to get a 'Trek & Tow' kit fitted by Hyundai just to beef up the rear end a bit but this does NOT increase the towing capacity.
The Terracan was replaced by the Santa Fe which is 2.2 L CRDi with a towing limit of 2.0 Tons and is not built on a full chassis. If you do some research on the web you find that Hyundai claim to have stopped production of the Terra as it didn't meet the latest emmissions requirements for Europe but I reckon it just became unviable for them to produce a vehicle on a full chassis.
The Highlander version is very comfortable to drive and has leather uphostery, climate control etc. and if you read early road tests you find such reports as "Why buy a Toyota or Pajero when you can get a Terracan for $10,000 less?". Only complaints in these reports were "quirky appearance of side mouldings" and "it doesn't have a compass"!
Still have the original Hankook RA07 tyres which have now done 97,000 km and brake pads at 4-4.5 mm. Probably will get another 3-4000 k's before tyres reach indicators.
