Dirty weekend

One of those times when my sister wanted a weekend away from the kids,

Back in the late 60s. I took the son and nephews and my wife had the girls,

The MEN headed bush, Tucker in the esky, swag, and a roll of canvas for the roof, plus the rods,

There is a little valley we had called the Hidden Valley, north of the old township of Grant, then it only the cemetery, used to be an old mining town, definatly 4wd country , and to get to this valley there was a very steep dirt track DOWN, and I mean DOWN ., select low 1, no feet on the pedals, heart in the mouth grade and hope the traction was stable
Do not attempt unless you are experienced, I believe there is tag along tours there now

After all this is a travel forum,??

At the bottom was the Crooked River, and a better camping ground u wouldnt find, no radio, tv, (Victorians would know it) just us and mother nature, hot , sweaty, smelly, roaring fire , fishing, get the picture, crawled into the swag and immediately fell asleep,

During the early night I felt an arm slide beside me  and thinking it was one of the boys thought nothing of it, , and when morning arrived I was about to get up and felt this weight on my feet

Looked down and there was the large lump under the sack,(my swag was an old army blanket with sacks sewn to it) anyway this lump moved , so I cautiously moved my feet out from under and  at the same time exposed a large brown snake ,Seems I spent the night with him, I dont know , it could have been a her, and as it was quite cool it moved very slowly, the kids were still asleep, so , but decided to let them know the perils of the bush , so got on my feet and gently nudged my son, when his eyes opened I told him there is a snake at your feet he froze, and then gently raised his head to see it , the first thing he said, was dinner tonight ( bottomless pit when they are young) and I agreed, you catch it I said , Well he did,  grabbed it just back of the head and removed the head as thought he had been a snake catcher all his life,

Why is it all these meats in the bush taste of chicken,
