freedom again

Free camping,   we all do it when we can, and its the epitomy of independance, more so if you are on your own,
you carry your own power, water, but tucker unfortunatly, have to buy it, with dollars, not allowed to hunt anymore,!
this started when I read Rollys last line on the subject of water, I quote
"There are so many inherent inefficiencies in urban systems that they have to 'continually draw on rural assets to compensate for their shortcomings.
'Twas ever thus."
Was'nt there a stage of government that was advocating decentralisation, so what is left in the bush  for them to draw on??
And wouldnt it be a pipe dream come true if we all became a little more independant
So what are you dependant  on, (no relatives allowed in the summary)

Yep, I can remember and indeed got caught up in "The Bathurst - Orange development" & the "Albury Wadonga scheme" both fizzled away to nothing except to introduce juvenile delinqency to both centres. The other problem they had was the lack of infrastructure to cope with the onslaught of city slickers who refused to tollerate the very second hand and dubious nature of rural australia. I.E they did not feel the need for constant power outages, lack of sewered land and no garbage services. Times have changed and even Birdsville these days has reliable power and water but I would not want to live there. Biggest problem we will all face as we age (gracefully) is the need for medical care, that is sadly missing in the bush. When you are 70+ every minute counts in an emergency. My Dad used to live in a beautiful picturesque coastal village and it used to take 7 minutes for a Helicopter from Nowra to get to him when he had to be "rescued" while rock fishing......I live in the ACT, 5km from an ambulance station and it has taken over an hour for an ambulance when we needed one. I'm defeating my own arguement, still in shock from selling the house.....

For myself I am at present dependant on putting a few more dollars in the bank so thatI can become far more independant in a year or two....does that make sense? I fear not!

Also dependant on Clancy the Whippet (for Whippet fun and cuddles), my campervan being in tip tp shape for a few years to come, a good radio and cd player for music and just knowing there are all my friends out there all over Australia (some I haven't even met yet!), oh and a little bit of Willie Nelson never does go astray!

I think as our world keeps slowly changing we will all have to get used to decentralisation ad thinking in village terms again, thems just my thoughts.

Unforntunately, and not ideally, I am dependent on shopping for my food. Station life was more self-sufficient. Kill the beast and grow the veges. Of course we still had to shop for basic stores we couldn't provide out there.
So for all my alleged "independence", I am dependent.
I hate retail therapy, so I don't miss those shops.
I very rarely buy take-away, and cook most of the food I eat, so in that sense I'm sort of independent.
That's life! Chris
