Any of you Grey Nomads still using Jaffle Irons ? We used to have one years ago and they were great for leftovers. We are thinking about getting another for the next trip in May. They seem to range in price from about $15 in BCF to about $44 for a Furphy brand so would appreciate any GN"S comments. Enjoy Happy Hour or whatever you are doing. Cheers Liz and Ed
You can often get them for a couple of dollars at Op-shops. I buy them for friends who have a hut on the riverbank on their property. Usually have family camping there weekends. Cheers, xina.
used one way up north a long time ago, killed the death adder real quick, did a damn good job of bashing his little head in but I'm afraid the iron didnt survive

The old jaffle iron, is a must, when travelling. What breakfast is there without the jaffle iron on an open fire. Filled with leftovers, or bacon and eggs.
I had a twin, but now just the single. I do not travell any distance without it packed.
You make breakfast, and also smoko and any more turn into afternoon snack or dinner. Just like the original Cornish Pastie, the product travells and is easy to eat (no plates)
oh!! oh!! I feel another "camp oven" episode coming on here
may I categorically state for all and sundry right here and now that I LOVE the jaffle iron, even though I dont have one I will shout it's virtues from the rooftop's and I promise I will get one, honestly...........I will
everybody should have one, go to an "op shop" near you and demand your's first thing in the morning before the rush or you will miss out
please, please, PLEASE dont fill up my inbox with more procrastination's and indignation's

MOST CERTAINLY , Have been using two doubles for about 30 years, cast iron and heavy, as the man says a handy weapon, if you go to the op shop, make sure there is a lock on the handle ,which HAS to be wood, very black, like your billy, NEVER WASH THE OUTSIDE and prewarm em like your oven
Where is my old jaffle iron? The one that we used to use in the old wood stove when I was a young'n. Makes it at least 65yo.
Raced down to look in my camping gear ... no luck.
A quick call to my daughter revealed that it now lives in HER camping gear!
Phew!!!!
(Note to self .. get it back & put it in the essential gear section of the van.)
What's your favourite jaffle iron recipe?
I liked cheese .. left over savoury mince ... dollop of sauce/chutney in the centre (or maybe a slice of banana) .. more mince .. then cheese again. We butter the outside of the bread.
Of course Egg with a squirt of tomato sauce & tabasco is hard to beat for breakfast.
LOL.......I recently bought a camp box from Rays Outdoors..in it was a dutch oven 4 quarts....a cast iron frying pan.......trivet....a oven lid handle...and a jaffle iron single...all for $40........
Thanks everyone for your comments. Off to hunt for a jaffle iron today. Our son has just informed us that he has the old jaffle iron but we'll let him keep it (Must be almost an antique by now) Happy jaffling Liz and Ed

In the c/park in Broome someone actually rescued a jaffle iron from the wheelie bin. Such sacrilege! For some reason it began circulating around the park, and people attched notes to it on delivery to it's next place of abode. Someone felt sorry for it getting around alone, and gave it a mate jaffle iron. As far as I know they didn't reproduce more jaffle irons, but I think I know where it is after I left it on someone's van step. I attached the following note"
It has been passed between friends around the Broome Vacation Village Caravan Park. It is an honour to be considered a friend by the former custodians of this jaffle iron.
The humble jaffle iron isnt a product of computerised technology. It wasnt created for war or malice. Its one of the least confrontational items within a household.
In fact, many families and friends have gathered to share food lovingly toasted between the hands of the jaffle iron the hands of friendship and good will.
It is with friendship and good will, I pass this humble jaffle iron on. Treasure it as a token of peace and comradery.
If you decide to pass it on, choose your next recipient wisely to continue the chain of friendship this jaffle iron has created.
The fourth recipient of this jaffle iron misunderstood the spirit of it, and the spirit which decided to honour them to be part of the jaffle irons chain of friendship.
Although it was previously misunderstood and destined to spend the remainder of its life in the dump, someone rescued it, thereby creating this network of friendship.

Spray the camp over and any other cast camping equipment with olive oil after it's been cleaned. No matter how long you store it, it won't rust. Inside is vital, outside is optional. Just a light spray wiped around with paper towel. That's true love. Cheers Chris

bought a jaffle iron off ebay, got carried away a bit, got into a bidding war with a collector,
I didnt know these things were highly collectible,
got it for $28, probably a bit dear but auctions tend to get my dander up and bring out the competitor in me, main thing is I won, so nyah nyah to the loser
she's the rolls royce, solid 100 year old cast iron with twin cookers, wooden handles with clasp, tried to get a furphy but they bring in excess of $100, pretty dear toast
